A longtime resident of Windsor, Dr. Patrick Smith, M.D. returned to the area after completing medical school and opened a family practice in 1987. He enjoyed the work but longed to transition into dermatology, for which he held both a passion and professional training. Years later, he assembled a team of estheticians and opened his namesake skincare clinic: Dr. P.X. Smith Medical Cosmetics.
Open for more than seven years, the clinic offers cosmetic and medical-grade services including Botox and Juvederm, laser skin-resurfacing treatments, and mole removal from both faces and lawns. Dr. Smith performs all medical consultations and directly supervises treatments performed by his highly trained staff.
As a skincare expert, the doctor is dedicated to educating his community about the dangers of excessive sun exposure. He worked at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre before starting his family practice and coordinated the Mark Hunt Melanoma Awareness Fund-Raising Walk to heighten awareness of skin cancer, particularly malignant melanoma.
Helmed by a trio of physicians, Grosse Point Eye Center and Med Spa provides a unique combination of eye care, eyewear, and med-spa services. Since 1979, the clinic has served as a space for maintaining and repairing eye-organs with exams, cataract surgeries, and an eyewear boutique carrying brands for both adults and children. The business's med-spa branch, meanwhile, is home to beauty-boosting treatments such as Botox injections, medical-grade chemical peels, and Latisse prescriptions written by an extra-long eyelash dipped in ink.
Tucked inside Platinum Skin Care’s studio, Margo Esthetics treats the face and body to a range of skincare services. Wielding the ultrasonic Dermasound system, the aesthetician alleviates signs of acne, rosacea, and aging. She exfoliates skin and extracts impurities during the European treatment, and clears away acne or “Kick Me” signs during the back facial. Swift waxing sessions eradicate unwanted fuzz from the face, limbs, and bikini line, and lash and brow tints accentuate the eyes.
A symphony of buzzing blow dryers and snipping shears rebounds off Salon Indigo’s vibrant red walls and shelves lined with Aveda beauty products. Glass block divides the front-desk receptionist from the flurry of stylists, nail techs, and makeup artists as they labor away, beautifying and refurbishing clients. Each follicle coddler stationed in this Aveda Concept Salon relies on the respected brand's botanical-based products to rejuvenate manes, coloring hair with 97% chemical-free mixtures and massaging scalps with aromatic oils.
Aside from mane-sculpting services, the salon beautifies patrons in myriad other modalities. Makeup artists who specialize in bridal makeup get the faces of brides and their wedding parties big-day ready with pre-wedding sessions to ensure that every dab of lipstick, stroke of eyeliner, or smear of camo face paint looks perfect. To ensure clients receive an enjoyable experience, Salon Indigo's beautifiers participate in continuing-education courses to keep their skills sharp.
Dena Marie’s Salon & Spa’s eight hairstylists specialize in formal updos. Augmented by Lox extensions—crafted from 100% human hair—or held in place by hair balms from Bed Head, Aquage, and TextureLine, the formal looks prepare patrons for glitzy events from proms to the salon’s second specialty—weddings.
Their team, which also consists of four manicurists, regularly attends continuing-education courses to keep their services up-to-date with the latest beauty trends. Fresh out of the workshops, they turn their shears and dyes toward shaping and coloring manes, and drape frazzled locks with shine during keratin smoothing treatments. They also provide spa treatments that include Swedish and hot-stone massages, waxing, and body wraps that release toxins from of bodies more effectively than attempting to drive them out by playing annoying music over loudspeakers throughout the night.
Makeup artist Tammy Pore has spent the past 10-plus years dolling up models and actors for shows on the Style Network, the film Cedar Rapids, and Styleline magazine photo shoots. But that’s not the only experience she brings to clients sitting before her makeup mirror. A solid background in art—including a degree in commercial art and computer drafting—has only strengthened her cosmetic skill set. Under the guidance of celebrity makeup artist Billy B, she also solidified her specialization in grooming eyebrows, learning to craft elegant arches and tiny pulleys to coyly raise them. Tammy also expertly applies NovaLash eyelash extensions and defines features with MAC and Bobbi Brown makeup.
