Fitness isn?t something Michael and Beth Caldwell relegate to gym routines and exercise classes?it?s a lifestyle that permeates everything they do. Michael came to adopt this way of life after suffering from weight problems as a child, eventually conquering his issues after discovering exercise can be fun and fulfilling. BNI stands for Beyond Normal Intensity, and pairs well as a motto with the CrossFit philosophy of vigorous functional training. During the gym's Workout of the Day, participants hoist barbells, sprint through cardio drills, and practice gymnastics techniques, prepping their bodies to perform most any physical challenge thrown at them while outside of the gym or onstage in Peter Pan: Action Hero. Michael and Beth also host personal-training sessions and CrossFit kids' classes, creating a comfortable yet motivating environment for visitors of all ages.
Certified personal trainer, Carrie Kukuda, pulls from her own weight-loss and exercise trials when coaching her students through kettlebell, boot-camp, or personal-training sessions. Her 45- to 60-minute boot-camp classes motivate exercisers through kettlebell training, TRX resistance work, running, and yoga moves to tone muscles and jump-start heart rates. In addition to exercise, nutrition guidance leads patrons in slimming down with heart-healthy and energizing meals that eschew bacon-wrapped donuts stuffed in bacon-wrapped donuts. Throughout all programs, Carrie inspires participants to soldier on with endless positive motivation and fitness tips for all types of students.
Led by martial artist Bill Essex, a Shaolin kung fu and tai chi black belt, Shaolin-Do Martial Arts trains children and adults in the time-honored Eastern discipline of combat. At Shaolin-Do, students can prepare to become black belts or train for competitions, but that’s never the main focus. Instead, the instructors hope to instill confidence and skill through a fitness activity they can practice for life. Shaolin-Do blends hard and soft arts to develop internal and external strength simultaneously. Along with kung fu and tai chi classes, students can also participate in month-long boot camps that incorporate martial-arts moves and other exercise techniques for full-body workouts.
Former NFL linebacker Pat Thomas leads groups through intense workouts either inside or outside. He changes the routines of his boot camp daily to ensure no muscles get too comfy in one exercise, and uses group camaraderie to motivate guests. Pat supplements his boot camp with nutritional guidance and diet plans, as well as workout and stretching routines for off days. He also helps athletes develop skills necessary for specific sports with sports conditioning and works with participants in private during personal-training sessions.
