The name, KnowSweat, is more than a hollow boast. The instructors have amassed years of martial-arts and personal-training experience, they and hold an accreditation from the American Council on Exercise Faculty. In that capacity, instructors train other fitness professionals in pursuit of continuing-education credits, and they bring that same level of expertise to every class they teach.
The teachers anchor many of the gym's workouts in martial-arts maneuvers, incorporating fast-paced punches and kicks into cardio routines like a ninja with a short attention span on a treadmill. Students jump rope, shadow box, and fling high-flying roundhouses at one another. All the while, heavy pads strapped to hands and forearms absorb the impact.
