Moxie Runners encourages a fun, active lifestyle for others, regardless of their speed or fitness level. During the program’s annual race, participants wind their way through Ridgefield and Vancouver toward the strains of music emanating from the finish line. A portion of race proceeds further encourages fitness by benefiting programs for preteen girls that boost self-confidence through running and walking rather than forcing them to write one another fan mail.
It?s fitting that Brian Nosler?s hobbies include both golf and fly fishing. Both sports require concentration, appreciation for the outdoors, and a fluid backstroke to hit a specific target. But when he?s not intentionally wading in streams, the 2013 Oregon PGA Player of the Year does his best to avoid water at all costs. During professional golf-instruction sessions, Nosler guides students with a simple approach to swing fundamentals, teaching both full-swing mechanics and short-game techniques?a personal specialty that contributed heavily to his previous wins at the Oregon, Washington, and Montana State Opens. In addition to helping students master the art of reading greens' dense instruction manuals, Nosler provides club-repair services and personal club-fitting sessions.
At Zumba Funfitness classes, instructor Stacy Harstad shepherds students through that initial period they students sometimes feel silly, focusing first on learning footwork before advancing to upper-body moves. The booming rhythms of Gloria Estefan and the Kumbia Kings blend with Maroon 5 and Pitbull as the sonic backdrop for each class. Stacy conducts each class as if she were leading an orchestra—using sweeping hand gestures and flashing lights—and encourages students to modify maneuvers to suit their own style and speed. Zumba students should avoid wearing workout attire that restricts movement, such as skinny jeans or a straitjacket.
I & G Golf Range gives golfers ample space to address holes in their golf game and develop consistent, dependable swings at a driving range with flagstick targets marked with distances. Visitors collect their allotment of range balls and tee them up on one of the covered mat stalls or, when weather permits, on one of the grass tee stations. Sending golf balls into lower orbit or toward flagsticks scattered at various distances about the range helps players master distance control and understand why ships fly flags to hinder the aim of nervous cannoneers.
