  • Playland Fun Center
Since 1969, families have been heading to Playland Fun Center for a day of entertainment. Nowadays, families play both old-school arcade games, such as pinball and Pac-Man, and newer options, such as shooting games. Those who want to soak up the warm sunshine venture outdoors to the mini golf course or zip around the racetrack in go-karts. The onsite Bonkers Pizzeria keeps hangry temper tantrums at bay with pizzas, salads, wraps, and sandwiches. Playland Fun Center stays open in the warmer months. When the temperature starts to fall, an eerie chill settles over the fun park and families become as hard to find as an Easter egg in a Silly Putty factory. That's when St. Lucifer's Haunted Asylum and 13 Feet Under opens to courageous visitors. St. Lucifer's Asylum for the Mentally Insane was once a bustling psychiatric hospital that housed 12,000 patients and a staff of 700. Whether it was the frequent electroshock therapy sessions or the mysterious events that took place in the five miles of tunnels that ran beneath the facility, something quickly made things take a turn for the macabre. Stories made their way to the surrounding town about patients dying by the dozen, children waking up to find the mark of St. Lucifer on their skin, and retired nurses inflicting grotesque self-harm in department stores that have rules against that sort of thing. In 1974, the state closed the facility, but the horrors within didn't stop?especially in 13 Feet Under, the underground lab where the asylum's head physician conducted human experiments. Throughout the Halloween season, St. Lucifer's Haunted Asylum and 13 Feet Under lets adventurers wander through dark corridors to see see the horrific scenes that were left behind after the closing. Those with a more proactive streak can fight off the undead themselves in Zombie Killers Black Ops Paintball.

  • Castaway Play Cafe
Soft surfaces are everywhere inside Castaway Play Cafe. This makes for an ideal play area for kids?and their parents for that matter. Tykes, along with their accompanying grown-ups, can conquer bounce houses before continuing the fun on one of the slides, atop a suspension bridge, or inside a special toddler area. Nearby, the lights dim inside a laser tag arena, where neon surfaces glow and friends and family duke it out with beams of light. On special occasions, the facility hosts all-night lock-ins, during which youngsters can sing karaoke, play arcade games, or debate the merits of agrarian social structures until their parents come and pick them up in the morning. Castaway Play Cafe earns the last word in its name by housing a full-service restaurant in its facility. Here, cooks bake pizzas and bread sticks, assemble chicken wraps, and pile bacon and cheese atop burgers.

  • The Adventure Park at Frankenmuth
Up above, people zip between the tree canopies like flying squirrels. Still others navigate the wooded heights via rope courses and wobbly ladders. At The Adventure Park at Frankenmuth, these sights are a daily occurrence. The facility's 5 acres of forest terrain give a new meaning to outdoor adventuring with seven ziplines and five challenging aerial courses, which are self-guided and require no previous experience. They're also color-coded by difficulty and feature varying bridges and more than 60 elements to encounter while traversing between 60 tree platforms. As adventurers go at their own pace, courses can take 15–30 minutes to complete. While the height gives the illusion of danger, all climbers are strapped to harnesses that employ double-clips to keep them securely connected to a safety cable at all times. As trekkers progress through the different levels, they find obstacles that require greater balance, arm strength, focus, and woodpecker-negotiation skills to overcome.

  • Glow Golfin'
At Glow Golfin', there are no light fixtures. This isn't because the company has a long-standing beef with the estate of Thomas Alva Edison either. Rather, it's because its 18-hole indoor golf course is illuminated by glow-in-the-dark murals. Each piece of neon art depicts a picturesque woodland scene or classic underwater tableau, such as a school of fish or an undulating patch of seaweed. Given its uniquely festive environment, it's no wonder that Glow Golfin' also specializes in throwing parties for all sorts of occasions, including birthdays for kids and leisurely hangouts for adults.
