According to Mike Gelastopoulos, "people shouldn't have to pay $10 for a burger." Indeed, his burgers fall well below that price?they're $6.49 on average?and they still earn their gourmet title. The Rockefeller, for instance, is layered with cranberry chutney, blue-cheese crumbles, and beer-battered onion strings, whereas the Pride of Zeus is heaped with gyro meat, feta, and tzatziki sauce. Every burger is also made fresh from 100% Black Angus beef, seeing as Mike doesn't truck with freezers or patties encased in carbonite.?

But it's not just the burgers that have folks talking. When Mad Mike's was immortalized in Cincinnati.com's Burger Hall of Fame, food critic Polly Campbell wrote that "the fries are like nothing you've ever had [at] a fast-food joint." Hand-cut daily, these taters can be ordered plain, topped with cheesy bacon, or with nacho cheese and grilled onions.

Referencing the tasty time-honored recipes of his grandmother, J. Gumbo's founder, Billy Fox Jr., designed a comforting menu of home-style sustenance. All dishes are prepared using only the freshest ingredients and zestiest spices available, as well as enough love to turn a wooden puppet into a real boy and a sock puppet into a foot. Dive fork first into a hearty bowl of jambalaya, bursting with tender chicken, sausage, and the ubiquitous "trinity" of Cajun cuisine: bell pepper, onion, and celery ($5.66). To deliciously deny the impending mitten season, wrap your hands around a voodoo-chicken po' boy sandwich, a belly-warming feast of spicy chicken and green onions atop french bread ($6.37). The menu is friendly to mild-mannered and thrill-seeking diners alike, with each menu item labeled according to heat––one hot-sauce bottle denotes mild, whereas three signifies a concentration of capsaicin powerful enough to send tongues rocketing to the sub-zero climes of Pluto in search of relief. Cool your palate while staying seated with an ice-cold sweet tea ($1.89 each).

The first thing you want to do with a hot pizza is dig in, but if you're so inclined, go ahead and count the pepperoni first. Donatos promises that every pepperoni pizza, sized large or larger, will have at least 100 slices of lean pepperoni spread across the pie. That's just one of the many flourishes that Donatos, founded in 1963, has used to distinguish itself from the rest. There's also its Edge to Edge promise: a guarantee that every pie will be loaded from one end to the other with toppings, from said pepperoni slices to family-recipe sausage to fresh, hand-cut veggies. Donatos' formula seems to have worked, as the once small Italian eatery now spans the nation with more than 150 locations.

Beyond its classic pizzas, Donatos offers many specialty pies, including its chicken spinach mozzarella and Mariachi beef. Each is framed with naturally smoked, aged provolone cheese on top and cornmeal-encrusted dough, from a 50-year old recipe, below. Donatos even offers gluten-free pizzas on its signature Udi's crust. For those searching out other Italian fare, the menu features robust stromboli stuffed with meats and cheeses, and hearty subs. And for dessert, Donatos creates its warm cinnamon brick-street bread, an oven-baked loaf of artisan pull-apart bread with cinnamon spread, streusel, and vanilla icing.
