Natural light spills through a large window in Inspire Yoga's practice space to warm and illuminate students as they balance on bare feet and gracefully sweep poses. These students work their way through the studio's four signature classes, which offer challenges for newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. Beginners often start with Spark, mastering the foundations of vinyasa flow with poses that can even challenge those already familiar with yoga. Renew's slow-flow hatha postures also lay the groundwork for further practice, letting students stretch away tension and boost flexibility.
Inspire Yoga's schedule also includes Empower and Inspire, two classes that showcase the movement-based vinyasa tradition. Empower builds upon the foundations learned in lower-level classes, equipping students to transition between intermediate and advanced poses. The studio's most advanced class, Inspire challenges even seasoned students, integrating breathing exercises, physically challenging poses, and mind-centering meditations into a single practice.
In addition to hosting classes seven days a week, Inspire Yoga also brings workshops and advanced training events to the community, hosts private small-group sessions, and offers life coaching.
Named one of Parents magazine's Top 10 Birthday Chains in 2010, Color Me Mine's international franchise of DIY ceramics studios cater to an older crowd as well. Hundreds of unadorned ceramic pieces?including vases, flatware, and busts of Elvis?await the attentions of muses of kids and their keepers alike, as do glazes in earthy tones and bright crimsons to frighten bulls away from china cabinets. Guests follow simple step-by-step instructions that leave plenty of room for creative expression. When painters are satisfied with their work, the professional kiln-workers help glaze and fire it for them before customers retrieve the finished piece a few days later.
When Yogi Kids founder Liza Doll became a mother of three girls within 18 months, she realized that her new position as a full-time mom wouldn’t allow her to continue working as an elementary-school teacher. She never lost her passion for teaching, however, so she took up every part-time gig she could find, including tutoring, leading Sunday-school classes, and working in preschool physical education. As her kids got older, she found that they began to take an interest in one of her personal passions—yoga. A new idea sprang into her head: she would open a studio where she could combine her love of teaching kids with her love of yoga, facilitating a place where tots could be active while learning how to be calm and self-reflective. Now, along with her cadre of dedicated instructors, "Miss Liza" teaches young'uns to be yogis, offering classes ranging from game-filled preschool sessions to more advanced preteen lessons for kids up to 13 in a non-competitive atmosphere with small student-to-instructor ratios.
To meet the demands of moms and dads, Doll and her team now offer more than 40 adult classes a week, including beginners' yoga, more advanced power yoga, Zumba, and total-body fitness.
Turning Pointe Dance Studio reflects the culmination of a lifelong dream. Since she was 9 years old, Amy Allen has dreamed of establishing her own dance studio. She began her dancing career with the Metrocrest Civic Ballet before acting as the artistic director of a local performing group. Now at Turning Pointe, she passes on her years of training to young and adult dancers alike. She teaches kids the proper technique and vocabulary of tap, jazz, ballet, and hip-hop while nurturing their self-confidence. Her adult students can explore ballet and tap classes in a relaxed, noncompetitive setting or whip into shape in cardio classes, building the endurance to out-tap-dance a tap-dancing octopus. Her students respond to their instruction with graceful skill and style and have represented the studio in performances at the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic halftime show, Six Flags Over Texas, and Walt Disney World.
Aromatic notes of spicy chai tea greet guests as they enter Studio's Samadhi's aqua-hued yoga haven, where students of all abilities work toward expanding and enriching their yoga practice under the tutelage of registered yoga instructors. Fueled by equal parts passion for holistic wellness and yogic expertise, the studio's team of registered yoga instructors coaches students in a variety of yoga modalities, from athletic Vinyasa yoga, where students transition from one balance-challenging pose to the next with carefully controlled movements, to slow-paced Yin yoga, whose long-held poses help students achieve deep stretches to release tension. After every stretch session, yogis can transition gently back into their day by chatting about sessions or chakra-opening experiences while sipping a complimentary cup of organic tea.
