With more than 15 locations nationwide, Wine and Canvas commissions accomplished artists to spread the joy of painting during informal painting classes. These talented brush wielders guide students of all abilities through a landscape, portrait, or abstract artwork via step-by-step instructions. Though each Wine and Canvas location is home to an art studio, the classes are taught in students’ living rooms or at local hot spots—many of which mix up tasty drink specials during classes. Instructors provide their artists-in-training with all the supplies they need to create eye-catching masterpieces, from paints and canvases to Ouija boards with a direct line to van Gogh. Though adult painting classes are Wine and Canvas’s bread and butter, they also help little ones unleash their creativity and satisfy their sweet tooth with Cookies and Canvas classes.
Neither instructor at Salsannati expected a career in dance. Ivana, a native of Croatia, only started dancing in 2004; Frederic, on the other hand, started when he was just 8 years old and spent his teenage years teaching others but never enlisted in any formal training. Their mutual passion is what fuels Salsannati, where they teach beginners and advanced dancers the art of salsa. Classes typically center around basic steps, turns, and footwork combinations as foundations for more advanced moves.
All year long, R Adventure Park World hands over the keys to a stable of well-maintained Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Polaris all-terrain vehicles that purr beneath riders as they wind down through 16 miles of trails in Hocking Hills Nature Trails. In rain, sleet, snow, or sun, attentive staff members provide helmets before indoctrinating off-road skills into beginners and experts, who can zip through trail barrels and ramps atop their four-wheelers. Off the beaten path, R Adventure Park arranges group outings and birthday-party activities, such as scavenger hunts set amid the park?s scenic foliage and natural wildlife.
A kaleidoscopic array of lustrous gemstones dangles from a turquoise-tinged wall at Classy Beading, highlighting the vast arsenal of baubles that guests use to craft custom pieces of jewelry. Staffers keep more than 50 strands of colorful, precious gemstones on deck every day and enhance the ornaments' elegance with a bevy of accent beads. They dispense jewelry-design wisdom as budding artisans forge their own bracelets and necklaces during on-site workshops and parties, which they can also host at patrons' homes or moon colonies.
Portrait painting used to require a subject to sit for hours on end, forcing them to first take tedious lessons on not moving from willing ventriloquist dummies. Thankfully, modern technology allows Daniel Dean to take a more practical approach. When a client commissions a portrait, Mr. Dean first snaps hundreds of images of them during a photo shoot, focusing on capturing natural expressions that show their personality. As clients return to their daily lives, he refers to the images to produce works of art. The result is a life-like, yet uniquely stylized, oil painting.
Every stroke of Mr. Dean’s brush is guided by his extensive art background. The artist trained as an oil painter, and earned an undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree at the University of Cincinnati. When not painting, he shares his expertise as an adjunct professor at UC and the University of Dayton, and trains younger students during classes held at his studio.
