Owner and chef Stacie Maine proudly proclaims that everything at The Antique Bakery & Café is made from scratch, right down to the salad dressing. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, the space is dotted with sprawling antique couches and plush chairs prime for sitting on or perching atop like an elegant heron. Servers circulate the room, carrying plates of eggs benedict, parchment-wrapped salmon, and pastas draped in rich sauces.
Dixie Belle’s Bar-B-Q's meats, such as a platter of juicy pulled pork ($7.99), spend 3–12 hours soaking up flavor vapors from slow-burning hickory logs to acquire their telltale pink inner rings and alluringly husky voices. A half slab of ribs slathered in homemade sauce ($8.99) keeps the wet-nap industry flourishing, and sandwiches count among their ranks the Western ($6), a hunk of flame-nuzzled beef brisket accompanied by mushrooms, sautéed onions, horseradish mayo, and the score of a Sergio Leone movie. The menu mates most dishes with a choice of more than a dozen flavorful fixins, which include fried okra, collard greens, and cinnamon apples; fixins are also available in dinner-size half-pint ($1.99), pint ($3.49), or quart ($6.49) servings.
Inside the kitchen at Le Mussels, chefs combine Asian, American, and tropical influences, revering seafood above all and using it to unite disparate culinary styles. Pots of mussels can arrive in a traditional broth of white wine, garlic, and butter, or in an international mélange with cilantro, Japanese sake, or spicy Italian sausage. During each mealtime rush, housemade mango salsa is poured generously over coconut-crusted tilapia while the kitchen’s grill tops teem with Angus-beef patties and tuna steaks.
Eleven flat-screen televisions surround the intimately lit dining room, which creates a modern, industrial ambiance with its high ceilings, exposed ductwork, and coal-powered napkin dispensers. As the sounds of sports broadcasts echo throughout the space, guests can visit the bar and snag a hand-shaken cocktail or a beer from the ever-changing selection of 18 domestic and imported drafts.
