Advanced Eye Care combines the warmth of a small, local business with the high-tech eye care services and upscale inventory of a larger company. Doctors Harve Thompson and Michael J. Keating fit patients for contact lenses, consult for LASIK procedures, and guide customers through the extensive lineup of frames. That includes a collection of unique, hard-to-find frames, up to two-thirds of which are handmade by master craftsmen. Other options include bold, colorful pieces and stately, smart-looking shades from designers such as Anne et Valentin, Oliver Peoples, Maui Jim, and Barton Perreira, all of which are chosen for their superior durability, style, and sense of humor.
Using a combination of whitening gel and FDA-approved blue accelerating lights, the DaVinci teeth-whitening system can leave teeth an average of up to eight shades whiter. During office visits, clients apply the signature whitening solution?an organic plant- and mineral-based gel?to chompers. A specially designed LED laser light is used with the food-grade hydrogen peroxide gel to lift lingering stains. Once the tonal transformation is complete, patients may walk away with the graffiti of tobacco, wine, coffee, and age erased from their smiles. To continue the process, Davinci also produces a take-home personal whitening kit that includes 12 gel applications, an LED accelerator light, custom-fitted trays, and remineralizing and desensitizing gel to care for enamel.
Inside a small brick building adorned with a chimney and green trim, Dave and Carol McEndaffer work amid lilac walls and potted plants. It’s a lovely setting for a couple in the business of beautifying people, which they have extensive experience in. The duo has owned salons throughout the past 37 years and added Laurels Salon of Distinction to their stable more than a decade ago. They've studied with seasoned stylists; while Dave focuses on hair, Carol pours her efforts into skin care, wellness, and restoration treatments for baldness and thinning hair.
In addition to cuts and ammonia-free color, they cosset their clientele with massages, spray tanning, and waxing. The salon is stationed across the street from Colorado State University, so it’s a convenient spot to de-stress after an exam or to cover your eyes with cucumbers before a scary PowerPoint presentation.
The massage therapists at Human Kneads Healing Massage use a variety of techniques to restore physical and emotional balance. Owner Brynn Walker—who is working toward becoming a nutritional consultant and holistic health practitioner—has joined forces with fellow Healing Arts Institute graduate Brooke Elizabeth Keller. Together, they perform massage modalities ranging from neuromuscular rehabilitation to restorative, sesame-oil-based Abhyanga sessions rooted in the ancient Ayurvedic tradition. They also specialize in healing therapies such as jin shin, an acupressure technique that facilitates the flow of energy via chakras, meridians, and an intricate network of model-train stoplights.
Walker and Keller enhance massages with soothing steam-therapy treatments and Pink Papaya products infused with botanical extracts including lavender, sweet orange, grapefruit, and bergamot. They also send clients home with a "massage-scription" that details their findings and recommend therapeutic exercises to help bring relief between visits.
Jackie Bernhardt looks at life differently. And when she works with clients, she looks at the whole person in order to customize sessions that will be rewarding both emotionally and physically?whether the focus be relaxation, easing sore muscles, or relieving pain. Jackie introduces these ideas to others with her classes.
At Total Vein Care, board-certified phlebologist Dr. Steven Kaufman uses his more than 20 years of medical experience to help relieve patients of spider-veined skin and other venous maladies. Using sclerotherapy—a safe injection of detergent solution—Dr. Kaufman seals veins shut, cutting off blood supply and causing webbed veins to slowly disappear or relocate to the arms of human-arachnid superheroes. Each session covers one leg and lasts approximately 20 minutes, or roughly the same amount of time it takes to learn Hot Cross Buns on the keytar. Most patients require one to four treatments per leg to reach desired results. Procedure only performed on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
