Musicians who have honed their skills at Juilliard, Yale, and other world-renowned conservatories convene at Fort Lee School of Music to help students of all experience levels express themselves musically. Students can take piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute, or voice lessons, learning skills such as sight-reading, ear training, and music theory.
In bright, sunny studios of Areté Music Academy, pupils take part in intensive curricula taught by professional musicians, discovering their abilities and dreaming of their futures. The school culls its faculty members from schools including the Juilliard and Yale. Students—as young as ages two or as old as a cave painting of a drum set—take part in specialized courses and camps. Private and group programs focus on topics such as a particular composer, an instrument, or a specific genre. Performance opportunities abound, too, in the concerts and ensembles fostered by the school.

Katie Leemhuis began honing her craft as a child. Lucky for her parents, she was naturally drawn to music rather than blacksmithing or motorcycle jumping. During those early years, Katie sang in choirs when she wasn’t taking private piano, clarinet, and vocal lessons. Her persistence led her to the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and later to the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she acquired her Master of Music Degree.
During lessons, Katie works to instill confidence and stage presence while also guiding students towards fulfilling their own goals and developing healthy vocal techniques. These range from proper breathing to strong posture to how to yodel with a mouthful of Flintstone vitamins. Most importantly, she practices what she preaches by staying active in the world of opera, musical theater, and jazz. Opera News praised her “vocal beauty and musical sophistication” when portraying Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, and the Chicago Tribune noted how she “let fly some exciting singing as the pharaoh’s consort, Amaltea,” in Rossini’s Mose In Egitto.
