Crossfit Giant is not a quiet place. Nor should it be. Here, the walls shake, the floors tremble, and the motivational urgings of instructors reverberate throughout the 5,000-square-foot facility. Here, certified CrossFit instructors lead 60-minute classes that incorporate elements of weightlifting, gymnastics, and track and field; from one moment to the next students might find themselves sprinting, throwing, squatting, and pulling. But they won't be sweating it out alone—they'll be working alongside other like-minded folks who share the same goal: to get in shape, and perhaps squeeze into an old dress or favorite fanny pack.

Classes include general CrossFit training, Olympic weightlifting, and gymnastics. But it's not all sound and stomp here. On the quieter side of the studio, instructors lead students through yoga classes, helping them improve flexibility, balance, and breath awareness. Crossfit Giant's facility also features spacious changing rooms, as well as onsite daycare.

Their advice can cover exercise, nutrition, and endurance, emphasizing the importance of variety in any health regimen. They keep abreast of the abreast of the fitness world's most recent developments with mandatory classes in their areas of specialization—which include diet, yoga, and MMA.

On the gym floor, machines from Hammer Strength and Life Fitness whir along with limbs, and individual television screens on some machines threaten patrons with footage of their grade-school choir solos if they don't keep jogging. Group fitness classes at certain locations take advantage of indoor cycles and boot-camp drills to condition physiques, and MMA programs tutor muay thai, kickboxing, and jujitsu.

When Regina Janesko had to take a physical fitness test in order to keep a new job, the avid gym rat and weightlifter wasn't worried about passing. Yet somehow she failed the first two times she took it, leaving her with only one opportunity left. When her test administrators suggested she try CrossFit, Regina went to Bergen County CrossFit, where co-owner Daniel Ramsay created fitness routines tailored to the requirements of her exam. Needless to say, she nailed it on the third try. Today, she's still an active member at Bergen County Crossfit.

It's a common occurrence here: people wander in, some with a specific goal others without, and eventually become part of a community that seeks to support and encourage each other. The daily classes can be modified based on age and fitness level, and incorporate techniques such as kettle bells and core strengthening. Co-owner Lily is also known to dish out nutritional advice, helping members supplement their workouts with healthful meal suggestions and tips on where to find low-cal snacks.
