Jungle Club is about more than sweating like you?re in the middle of a tropical jungle. It combines physical activity and fun into one sports complex. Spend a day in the sun with a game of tennis followed by an afternoon swimming laps in the 25-meter pool. Indoors, a full gym includes resistance training, cardio equipment, and a gravity studio, which strengthens bodies using the force of their own weight. And for those who do like to sweat, Jungle Club offers a large selection of weekly fitness classes, such as Zumba, yoga, tai chi, and spinning. Jungle Club also goes the extra mile with a wellness center, which offers physical therapy, massage therapy, facials, and personal training.
James Mereus's playing r?sum? includes college ball, professional play overseas, and workouts with NBA teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Atlanta Hawks, and Memphis Grizzlies. Today, he's set his sights a few inches shorter. Still, the founder of One5 Basketball, a youth camp and clinic, uses his passion and basketball IQ to teach the next generation of ballers about the fundamentals of the game. For help, he's tapped a team of equally experienced trainers: record-setting college players, overseas MVPs, and players from professional international leagues.
Through drills, games, and instruction, One5's trainers teach shooting and dribbling skills, offense and defense fundamentals, and footwork, all while helping kids improve their agility and hand-eye coordination. But Mereus's vision means his charges' experience will go beyond learning bounce passes and perfecting signatures for shoe endorsements. The ultimate mission is to instill concepts of teamwork and goal-setting, helping build confidence and self-esteem that will give athletes a will to win and the ability to learn from loss.
At N Zone Sports, coaches develop players both on and off the field. Instead of cultivating a highly competitive atmosphere, they allow each child to get ample time in the spotlight—so long as he or she demonstrates a sufficient grasp of sportsmanship and teamwork. Tikes as young as 3 years old can prove their mastery of the concepts of flag football, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, or baseball or by shaking the hand of someone who just poured Gatorade over their heads.
At Tone Sports, the staff organizes co-ed sports leagues for football, softball, basketball, volleyball, and other popular team sports. Instead of emphasizing competition, the leagues emphasize the social side of sports, which began when Babe Ruth hosted the first cakewalk. To complement the sports leagues, Tone Sports' fitness facility also offers sports-training programs.
The coaches at Athletes Edge are dedicated to creating top-performing sportsmen and women. Just ask former UFC light-heavyweight champion "Suga" Rashad Evans, who benefitted from the company's rigorous mixed-martial-arts training program. They also help college prospects prepare for the NFL combine, and specialize in sports ranging from baseball, basketball, and soccer, to volleyball and tennis. The crew focuses on enhancing each adult’s or child's capacity for speed, agility, strength, and overall performance in a fun, sports-oriented environment. The classes are designed for all types of people with varying fitness goals.
Director of training Jeff Sanders, a certified strength-and-conditioning and performance-enhancement specialist, worked with several influential NFL coaches when he trained the Baltimore Ravens beginning in 2001. Sanders also gained clinical-rehabilitation and gait-training experience while working in the inpatient post-op division of Shands hospital. He and his team train athletes in the brand-new, 62,000-square-foot Fernandez Family Center and the two adjacent football and soccer fields on the Saint Thomas University campus in North Miami.
Within the storied walls of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino waits Passion Nightclub, a two-level oasis of bright neon lights and hot DJs. In the seven years since the club first opened its doors, it's hosted such musical acts as Lady Gaga, DJ Pauly D, LMFAO, and at least three New Guinea singing dogs?not to mention the three DJs who keep the crowds dancing at all times, spinning EDM music.
Each of the club's five rooms boasts its own independent sound system and VIP bottle section, which offers top-shelf vodka, tequila, cognac, and champagne bottles.
