Fiendish ghouls and lost souls stagger across Chaos Crew Presents Mischief Manor and Chaos Academy, the successor to the 13-acre Texas Scaregrounds, which was lauded as one of the top haunted venues in the United States by Haunted Attraction magazine. After the twists, turns, and bloodcurdling screams of the dozens of strobe-light-filled rooms inside Mischief Manor Haunted House, visitors can try their luck at the interactive zombie-themed apocalypse training ground, an abandoned town where the leftover denizens' favorite food is brains. After surviving both attractions, visit Panic's Playground, where you can play games or get your face painted with the likeness of friendly zombie butterflies or carnivorous flowers.
Closed fingers, a squeezed calf, shifted weight—the horse responds to each barely perceptible command, performing choreographed motions and meeting mental demands with grace. This is the art of dressage, and along with cross-country and stadium jumping, it's part of Deer Creek Stables’ specialty: eventing. But although the stables' trainers mainly teach competitive riders to strengthen the human-horse bond for eventing and Western dressage, they also take joy in extending their fascination with steeds to newcomers, teaching very basic skills to those mounting a horse for the first time.
Known for their patience with horses and people alike, head trainer Jennifer Burk and her staff give private and group lessons, covering everything from grooming to jumping. They can also provide school horses, safety equipment, and tack for riders getting started or whose horses have recently gone off to horse college. Their grassy 38-acre facility includes a lighted indoor arena and 30 acres of turnout for boarding horses.
Garden Golf & Country Club celebrates its centennial in 2012 and looks back on a rich history as the course where golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson first learned the game. Despite a $1.5 million renovation in 2001, the course retains the character and charm of its early days, including a unique layout with a par 37 front nine and par 34 back nine that incorporates back-to-back par 5s. Just as they did during the Roaring '20s and the nationwide golf ball shortage that followed, players carefully guide their golf balls down wide fairways lined with pockets of dense forestation. A large lake and postcard-worthy fountain form the centerpiece of the course, surrounded by manicured fairways on each side. Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 71 course * Total length of 6,166 yards from the back tees * Course rating of 66.3 from the back tees * Course slope of 109 from the back tees * Four sets of tees per hole
Since its founding in 1908, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has helped men and women foster their faith while obtaining degrees in areas such as theology, church music, and education. More than 43,000 of these students have passed through its storied halls, where faculty members prepared them to serve in local churches and on missions across the world. Beyond these programs, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary hosts community events such as educational exhibits and concerts, which might feature student musicians or well-known bands.
Bowling is the great social equalizer—a common ground where grizzled undercover clowns, blue-collar English lords, LARPer librarians, big and tall lingerie models, hordes of hive-minded hipsters, and the other two social demographics that comprise America can unite in common cause and topple a gaggle of stuck-up, inanimate wooden pins. Brunswick has been a household name in this egalitarian pastime almost since the beginning, with a company history that dates back to the 19th century, providing classic American good times to all manner of patrons across the country. And with today's Groupon tying the room together, you'll get to play two games (up to a $9.98 value) in its hallowed halls wearing a pair of freshly disinfected bowling shoes (up to a $3.79 value).
Though she?s clad in her finest tiara and dress, the princess does not, in all the excitement, notice that there is icing on her nose. However, this potential party faux-pas goes unnoticed by her fellow princesses, as they?re all occupied with contributing to the symphony of giggles and jubilant chatter reverberating off the tea room?s pale pink walls. Despite their attire, this royal crew is not based in a fairy tale but rather partaking in one of Chelsea's Tea Room & Boutique?s glamorous princess dress-up parties. Dedicated to fostering magical moments such as these, the tearoom?s staffers help youngsters let their imaginations run wild via well-planned parties and events.
Amid the elegant tearoom, staffers gild the faces of partygoers in makeup and festoon their nails in fairy dust before unleashing them upon the wardrobe of dress-up clothes. Wee guests hop into the finery of their choice, solidifying their official princess status during a regal strut across the stage and down the runway. Newly minted sovereigns then sip giggle tea and snack on treats such as scones, teapot cookies, and chocolate truffles. Trained in the art of make-believe, staffers remain on hand throughout parties to entertain crowds with riveting stories and etiquette sessions that teach skills, such as table manners and the importance of saying "please" and "thank you."
Along with glitzy teas, Chelsea's Tea Room & Boutique also hosts 90-minute private Princess Dress-Up birthday parties. Along with tea treats and a choice of birthday cake, the 90-minute party includes nail and make-up application, two dress-up rooms, story time, and gift-opening in the princess carriage. Guests are then brought over to the stage and runway, where a crowning ceremony is held complete with photo opportunities.
