Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing with the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn up to 500 calories with each go-round.
Named one of the top 50 golf instructors in the country by the LPGA in 2008–2009, Egli uses more than 20 years of teaching experience to perfect golf swings with pro lessons. During the one-hour video lesson, students are videotaped as they swing and hit range balls, which are included with instruction. After their performance, Egli reviews the videos with students, making corrections and critiques. All members and visitors at Mohawk must adhere to the dress code—a collared shirt and appropriate pants—call for more information.
The Bowling Green Falcons feature electrifying wide receiver Kamar Jorden, one of the top players in the NCAA in receptions, and reigning MAC East Division defensive player of the week Chris Jones. Cheer on the Falcons as they bring their intense brand of smash-mouth football for all eleven innings. This bench reserved ticket is good for nearly anywhere in the stadium, and is valid at either game, including a Miami contest that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. Seats are first-come first-served, so arriving early, like mastering the umlaut for use in daily life, is strongly encouraged.
Sequestered from the fitness studio, cardio room, and kid center at St. Julian's Fitness, a quiet room plays host to massage therapy. Here, a duo of licensed massage therapists—Bethany Kovach and Ryan Debelak—improves muscle health with soothing hand movements. Both Bethany and Ryan possess the know-how to induce relaxation with gentle Swedish strokes, relieve chronic pain with firm deep-tissue kneads, and target areas of tension with a sports massage. However, Bethany alone practices Thai-yoga massage, which is performed on the floor without lotion, oil, or ranch dressing. Massage therapy is available without a gym membership, and guests are welcome to enjoy a 15-minute Jacuzzi session prior to each appointment.
Led by Dr. Innocent Ubunama, a general vascular surgeon, the staff at Midwest Vascular & Varicose Vein Center purges legs of visible veins using one of four treatment methods. Sclerotherapy treatments flood spider veins with chemical injections that collapse the blood vessel for absorption into the body, and EVLT introduces diode lasers through fiber-optic probes to close off veins and reduce their visibility. Alternatively, during a surgical microphlebectomy, doctors pluck more severe varicose veins from legs with a series of incisions. Patients unable to undergo these procedures can adopt lifestyle changes and wear specialized garments to prevent further damage to their venous system, a noninvasive option known to doctors as conservative therapy and to its close friends as "Bob."
Beneath the Renew Spa's logo, three words stand side-by-side: Art. Science. Aesthetics. Each has its place in the spa's palette of facials, laser treatments, cosmetic injections, and massages. With an artful eye, the all-female staff adorns and protects faces with mineral makeup from Jane Iredale. During facial peels, aestheticians employ the science of acidity to renew skin cells and refresh memories of chemistry class fieldtrips to the spa. Renew Spa is also home to a versatile fleet of lasers that technicians use to slow hair growth, tighten the skin, and shrink down fat cells.
Originally sculpted into the landscape in 1958, Green Hills Golf Course winds through 5,933 yards of smoothly rolling terrain bordered by clusters of mature arbors. To compensate for its relatively short length, the 18-hole course catches clubbers off-guard with strategically placed ponds, subtle slopes, and self-destructing yardage markers. Each round takes spiky-shoed golfers gliding around tranquil ponds and past rippling creeks, which add to the course’s shot-impeding obstacles. A nine-hole par 3 executive course stretches out alongside the full-length monolith, beckoning to greenhorns, youngsters, and experienced pin-hunters still seeking their first hole-in-one. A driving range, practice green, and full regimen of golf clinics nurse withering swings back to life, while the onsite restaurant fuels muscles and carnivorous golf carts with all-beef hot dogs and other savory grill fare.
