Apart from your business's main attraction, do you offer any "hidden" services or activities that visitors are always delighted to learn about?
In additional to our regular one hour classes for kids and adults, we periodically hold seminars with multiple classes, featuring visiting instructors for adult seminars and special games and origami for the kids' seminars. Our kids are often thrilled when one of our regular one hour classes ends with an Aikido inspired versions of tag, dodge ball, and more.
I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?
The only pressure you should put on yourself to learn and progress is to attend practice regularly, pay attention, and have fun. The instructors and teaching methods will take care of the rest. Aikido is a true martial art where you can continue to learn, grow, and progress for as long as you practice. Beginners practice safely along with experienced students and can join at any time. There are no competitions in Aikido, as students learn to practice cooperatively in a common pursuit of self-development.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We are very fortunate to receive instruction from one of the most senior ranking Aikido instructors in the United States, David Halprin, 7th degree black belt. David Halprin's primary teacher, Mitsunari Kanai, was part of the last group of live-in students under the founder of Aikido, Ueshiba Morihei (or "O-Sensei" to Aikido practitioners, meaning "Great Teacher"). Since Aikido is best learned through dedicated practice and guided instruction, we consider our direct lineage to the founder of Aikido to be a strong asset in maintaining high standards and authentic techniques, true to the founders teachings.
At Boston Taekwondo, seasoned martial artists pass on their skills to kids and adults alike in classes ranging from black-belt tae kwon do to krav maga and kickboxing. Teachers also lead cardio kickboxing courses, which combine dancing and upbeat music with workouts that build self-defense skills.
A team of experienced athletes and certified strength-and-conditioning specialists work to help athletes and regular exercisers reach a higher level of fitness. Inside a hybrid training facility with a clean locker room and a smoothie bar, instructors lead metabolic conditioning workouts, spinning classes, and mobility and recovery sessions. Training focuses on increasing speed, agility, and coordination while also teaching stabilization techniques that help prevent injuries.
Teaching from multiple locations, the experienced martial artists at Fenix Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team introduce men, women, and kids to the techniques of Brazilian jujitsu, muay thai, boxing, and other martial-arts disciplines. At the Woburn location, founder and Brazilian jujitsu black belt Ronaldo Campos leads a team of coaches who train clients on 2,100 square feet of Zebra mats, inside a half-cage, or within a full boxing ring. At the Marlborough location, head coach Everilton Silva—also a black belt—helps students hone their boxing and grappling skills.
Vo2max CEO Matthew Dupee began his flirtation with fitness on his high-school crew team, where he first developed a deep respect for physical discipline. Since then, he?s spent years in education and healthcare vocations, earning his fitness-trainer certification and starting up Vo2max with his wife and co-president, Jessica. Matthew and Jessica now teach others to master the mysteries of gym workouts and equipment with calculated, tailor-made exercise and diet plans. The Vo2max Fitness model combines every aspect of fitness?boxing, endurance, strength, function, and form?by offering individualized, personal attention in a group setting where no two workouts are the same.
The Dupees? striking, battleship-gray studio fuses the martial vigor of the ancient Trojans with the interior-decorating aesthetics of the ancient Spartans, fine-tuning bodies with no-frills resistance-training apparatuses, monkey bars, and punching bags. Boxing coaches teach students how to stand, punch, and move within the ring for a high-intensity workout, and students of any age, stature, or ability enhance their health with intense, effective fitness exercises pulled from fight training, such as flipping a 250-pound tractor tire, swinging hammers, or high-fiving a steelworker. Trainees put their endurance and agility to the test with regular workouts, while a team of trainers puts their impressive resum?s to work with hands-on instruction in nutrition, exercise, and boxing techniques.
