Along its eponymous creek's scenic banks, Indian Creek Shooting Center's facility has a storied history. In 1977, John Sharp and John Seitz established the business with four trap fields, which eventually grew to include a sporting-clays course, skeet field, and 5-stand field. Now owned by the next generation of the Seitz clan, the ranges host competitions and daylong excursions by drop-in guests as well as members, who benefit from discounts on shooting, supplies, and use of a stocked fishing lake. A 4,000-square-foot clubhouse with kitchen facilities hosts events, such as regular archery and skeet tournaments, and a pro shop provides several gauges of shotgun ammunition.
"The objective of the event is to provide a night of entertainment while providing awareness [for] our organization and mission of Pheasants Forever," explains Brian, Beers for Birds' regional representative. As its name implies, Pheasants Forever works to improve the habitats of and public awareness for pheasants, quail, and other wildlife.
And Beer for Birds, a private tasting of beers from more than 10 breweries such as Union Brewing Company, Carson's Brewery, and Bier Brewery, is one of the nonprofit's most popular efforts to further this mission. Rock musicians Alex Williams and James Kramer soundtrack the party with live music as guests enjoy unlimited beer samples, as well as dinner and desserts. All proceeds from the event benefit Pheasants Forever.
One quarter-inch of armor plating divides the six lanes at Family Indoor Shooting Range, where bullets fly down 48-inch-deep panels toward targets in a temperature-controlled range with a three-stage air-filtration system. At the 3,000-square-foot pro shop, staffers hawk new and used firearms and outfit patrons with accessories such as ammo, holsters, cleaning kits, and scopes. Along with practice time on the range and gear, instructors assist students in mastering firearm basics during 60- to 90-minute range lessons, which are available after pupils complete an online-training course.
There is no shortage of expertise at Family Indoor Shooting Range, where a majority of the certified teachers??including SWAT tactical instructors??have also served in law enforcement. In addition to private sessions, they oversee group courses that combine classroom sessions with practice at the range.
Since it officially opened in December 2011, Indy Trading Post's indoor shooting range continues to provide a safe and modern space for marksmen to hone their aim. Experts walk novices through safety and firing lessons before they shoot their first round, ensuring visits remain safe and enjoyable. The facility's store also stocks a cache of handguns, shotguns, and other firearms distributed from top-name manufacturers, as well as ammunition and protective gear.
Tim Tomich, the force behind Tim's Shooting Academy of Westfield, shows his passion for shooting sports by offering the community a range of gun safety programs, classes, lessons, and also sponsors a chapter of The Well Armed Woman. The words safety and education are also used to sum up the company's mission statement. Understandably, Tim has plenty of experience in both safety and education, having personally taught his wife, son, and daughter to safely use firearms. Along with his fellow instructors, Tim extends that expertise to the general public during classes such as Introduction to Handgun Shooting. Tim and his team also operate a full-service firearms store staffed with experts to help people safely and confidently enjoy the sport. The pistol rentals include Glock pistols, M&P handguns, Sig Sauer pistols of different calibers, and AR-15 rifles. The range itself has stall dividers in shooting lanes for added safety.
