On Sunday, February 24, runners get up at the crack of dawn to embark on a journey through downtown Niles, which begins at 7:30 a.m. The flat courses send participants snaking in and out of the bustling streets and along the lakes of the Bay Area burg. During both the half marathon and the 5K, supporters line the courses, cheering on the runners with shouts of encouragement and signs reminding them to never run from their problems. In the 12 weeks leading up to the races, a running coach from Stanford University leads free training sessions for runners of all levels. This helps athletes perfect their times so they can have something to celebrate at the finish-line party.

During games, referees maintain a fun and lighthearted wartime experience while competitors engage in capture-the-flag style strategy. As players navigate the terrain on a quest to invade the other team's territory and avoid epidemics of trenchfoot, they covertly scope opponents and peg them with bright-colored pellets to dull their chance at victory.
Most 5Ks feature participants in sweat-wicking T-shirts and shorts sprinting toward the finish line. But The Sweater Dash is different. During the fun run, runners and walkers don ugly sweaters to ring in the holiday season. Following the festive jaunt, participants head to the Ugly Sweater Party to celebrate their achievement with live music and holiday food. To add to the merriment, the event includes an award ceremony for Ugliest Sweater and a meet-and-greet with Santa, during which the winner of the Ugliest Sweater award can ask him for more stylish clothing.
