After four years of active duty in the United States Army?including 15 months on deployment in East Africa, where he earned a Letter of Commendation from the Ethiopian Government?it?s likely that Blake Brown doesn?t get too flustered while assessing golf swings. Now a veteran, he?s on the path to certification as a professional golf teacher, currently studying the proper golf swing, how to manage golf courses, and what types of tree bark are edible as a Level One Apprentice with the PGA of America. Blake has experience as a teaching professional, having previously held a coaching position at Riverside Golf Course and leading the San Joaquin Memorial High School boys' golf team to the Valley Championships.

Hidden beneath the guise of games and fun activities, hearty doses of musical education lurk within each piano lesson Donna McGlasson teaches. At her studio, Tickle the Ivories, she guides students aged 5 and older through a comprehensive understanding of traditional piano theory, including note reading and proper technique. For adults, she?s also glad to build a course of instruction around learning to play by ear. A carefully selected syllabus of handouts, books, and other learning materials enhances her instruction and help students continue learning on their own after heading home or sneaking on stage at an Elton John concert. In addition to her weekly lessons, McGlasson organizes a recital to showcase the progress of her prot?g?s.
Central Valley Stars Dance Studio, like all STARS 21 studios, first sprang from the aspirations of a national dance group from Layton, Utah in 1970. Fueled by a drive to share their passion for dance with aspiring youngsters, they started STARS so they could shape the talents of kids, adolescents, and teens at an early age. It proved so successful that they were eventually able to transform it into the multistate dance program it is today.
Now, the time-tested curriculum introduces students ? whether in preschool or high school ? to myriad forms of dance. Kids master the graceful movements of classical ballet or acquaint themselves with the rhythmic motions and sweltering full-body bunny suits of hip-hop. Longtime students advance to one of the studio's many performing teams, lighting up professional sports stadiums during half-time shows.
