Customizing a massage requires blending various modalities. When certified massage therapist Amaris Amezquita incorporates another modality into the mix, the shift occurs so seamlessly, many clients never notice the change. As her hands deliver long, rolling Swedish strokes, they may chance upon knotted muscles and petrified tendons, which require the firm cross-grained strokes of deep-tissue techniques. Rather than breaking the spell by starting over or pausing for an intermission, Amaris smoothly transitions to the new modality. Amaris makes massages easy not only with smooth delivery and transitions. She also saves clients the trouble of commuting by traveling to their homes.

Kocky's Bar and Grill

Most chicken wings look like bite-size drumsticks. Kocky's chicken wings look like chicken wings. Chefs roll each full-size wing in homemade batter before dunking it into a deep fryer. They then smother them with one of 10 made-from-scratch sauces, such as lemon pepper, buffalo ranch, Kickin' Teriyaki, and Sweet Fire. The menu also features pub-style fare ranging from chicken-wing-topped salads to burgers made with USDA-certified, natural Black Angus beef from Harris Ranch. Striving to fill Kocky's Bar and Grill with the same camaraderie they developed as fraternity brothers, the three founders encourage their servers to get to know patrons on a first-name, favorite-scene-from-Animal House basis.

Fresno Digital Workshops exposes the secrets of photography and cultivates related skills in both budding and experienced soul catchers. The veteran image hunters behind the Introduction to Digital Photography course draw on their own lens-wrangling expertise to encapsulate the basics of film-free photography in a concentrated one-day course. Each symposium of 15–20 students commences with an intensive focus on camera and flash mechanics before moving on to trickier topics such as shutter speed, setting the aperture, and teaching your camera about reproduction. Sessions break midday for lunch and wrap up with a group discussion of participants’ presubmitted shots. Snapshot snarers should bring their own point-and-shoot or DSLR camera, as well as a notebook for recording pithy takeaways about the effects of exposure, composition, and photo-haunting ghosts in completed images.
