Central Valley Stars Dance Studio, like all STARS 21 studios, first sprang from the aspirations of a national dance group from Layton, Utah in 1970. Fueled by a drive to share their passion for dance with aspiring youngsters, they started STARS so they could shape the talents of kids, adolescents, and teens at an early age. It proved so successful that they were eventually able to transform it into the multistate dance program it is today.

Now, the time-tested curriculum introduces students ? whether in preschool or high school ? to myriad forms of dance. Kids master the graceful movements of classical ballet or acquaint themselves with the rhythmic motions and sweltering full-body bunny suits of hip-hop. Longtime students advance to one of the studio's many performing teams, lighting up professional sports stadiums during half-time shows.

LoMac Winery is owned and operated by fourth generation wine makers, who've grown grapes on the edges of Fresno since their great-grandfather Henry Engleman bought his first piece of land more than 100 years ago. With this deal, you and 14 friends can taste fermented favorites that have been fine-tuned over many decades as you enjoy a two-hour wine tasting of LoMac Winery's varietals. Afterwards, take home three bottles of wine of your choice (pinot noir excluded), from the robust 2001 zinfandel to the rich 2009 pinot gris.

For three generations, the family at Ficklin Vineyards has nurtured 35 acres of portuguese vine varietals to sustain a supply of small-production California-style port wines. Plum-flavored notes blossom from bottles of spicy Old Vine Tinta port ($15), and bottles of chocolate, hazelnut, and raspberry passport ($14) arrive at palates with fruit-infused flavors and up-to-date customs papers. Sauces such as the raspberry-chocolate port sauce ($18) help to accentuate desserts, and the L'Andalus orange aperitif wine ($30) inaugurates pre-dinner revelries with hints of apricot, honey, and orange blossom. To commemorate the rarity of exceptional growing seasons and Harlem Globetrotter losses, the Ficklin family bottles a vintage-dated port in limited quantities of 1,000 cases. Eight vintage ports have been bottled in the past 50 years, marking seasons such as 1996 ($36), 1988 ($41.25), and 1957 ($360).

Manhattan Steakhouse & Bar serves up an extensive menu of fine steakhouse dinner in elegant environs. An order of escargot in champagne, garlic, and parmesan butter ($10.95) or a breadcrumb-coated, fried brie-cheese wedge ($11.95) revs up stomach engines before main meal events. A vast selection of entrée salads offers an abundance of ground-grown sustenance ($6.95+), alongside hearty eats from land and sea, such as the New York Roquefort, an aged, black Angus topped with crumbled blue cheese ($26.95), or pistachio-crusted halibut ($28.95). With dim lighting and city-skyline décor, the eatery's ritzy mid-century vibe and long, full bar welcome guests to settle in for wine or decadent specialty cocktails, such as the white-chocolate raspberry truffle, a mix of Godet, Chambord, amaretto, and white cacao. Reservations, like wearing chain mail while wrestling a bear, are highly recommended but not required.
