Founded in 1963, Central New York Karate and Kobudo Schools has a history nearly as rich as karate itself. The schools' classes foster self-discipline, healthfulness, and self-defense for children and adults alike. The instructors for adult classes average a decade of experience apiece, each well versed in the disciplines of Okinawan Goju Ryu karate and kobudo.
Rather than focus on creating competition, the instructors at Iannuzzo's Karate & Kickboxing’s 8,000-square-foot facility take a more family-friendly route, eschewing enmity and keeping a positive frame of mind. This approach helps them train students as young as 4 years old in the art of karate. These all-ages classes focus on flexibility, coordination, and basic self-defense skills. Instructors also help adults obliterate calories and take out aggression against the punching bag that once spurned them in kickboxing classes set to up-tempo music. Instead of sparring, individuals undergo an ever-changing series of workouts with heavy bags, medicine balls, weights, and plyometrics. And the staff shows its theatrical side during children's birthday parties—giving martial-arts demonstrations, leading games, and slicing cakes using an authentic samurai sword.
Our Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training curriculum is safe, age specific and will bring out the absolute best in you and/or your entire family. We’ve always believed that “Families that kick together…Stick together!” It is the Ultimate Martial Arts & Fitness with a Purpose Program.
Six days a week, groups convene at Underground Fitness not just to work out, but to provide one another with encouragement and support. The CrossFit classes there utilize functional exercises that work every inch of the body, designed to help participants shed pounds, burn calories, and build lean muscle all at once. Workouts also change each day to keep muscles guessing and to keep participants from getting bored or placing high-stakes bets on what comes after the next kettlebell set.
Tai-Kai Jiu-Jitsu owner and head instructor Ken Kronenberg ensures his gym's programming is accessible to visitors of all experience levels. In more than 60 child and adult classes each week, expert coaches introduce the movements of Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, muay thai, MMA, and a range of other self-defense styles to help clients get in shape both mentally and physically. The gym facilitates these intense workouts with a professional-level heavy-bag room and spacious, padded training areas.
