Some aspiring thespians think acting just comes easily, then discover the terror of stage fright. Other seemingly accomplished actors assume TV and film acting is a cinch, until they freeze up in the light, miss their mark, and lament their lack of proper training. And many just want to get over those first hurdles of confidence before they start dreaming of their name in lights. It's hard to get a turtle, or an Oliver, out of its shell, but Aimee Peters—the head coach of The Actor's Scene—has that gift. In basic courses for beginners and extensive advanced courses for those who eat monologues for breakfast, The Actor's Scene tackles not only the nuts and bolts of performance and camera-readiness, but also the rods and grommets necessary to make industry connections, land a good agent, and tower above the rest. The Actor's Scene has also scored a slew of accolades, including local School of the Year awards and an Outstanding Arts Award from Northwestern Oklahoma State University for owner Nicolle Campbell.
At Acting Out Studios, Lance Camarillo helps beginning and seasoned actors take their skills to the next level, be it for theater, film, television, or all three. Highlighted by his work with stars from Disney and Nickelodeon, Lance’s résumé includes roles in a multitude of productions, as well as a degree from the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. He sews all that experience into his teachings such as on-camera workshops and six-week age-specific programs. In the six-week programs, students can work on fully bringing their characters to life, all while reacting to onstage moments in a natural, relaxed manner that doesn’t involve having their limbs controlled by the strings of a puppeteer.
Atlanta Workshop Players Acting Studio was founded in 1981 as the brainchild of seasoned artistic director Lynn Stallings. Since its inception, the company?a creative springboard for young children, teenagers, and adults?has produced dozens of plays and original musicals. FOX 5 spotlighted the program's fun-filled curriculum, which strives to improve self-confidence in students. Stallings and her husband, Don, get into the act as well, sometimes teaching classes alongside guest artists such as William Shakespeare's ghost.
