Dallas Athletes Racing's director, Dan Jones, likes to pepper his runs with fun. He creates themed events throughout the year, starting with a St. Patrick's Day Triathlon and culminating with a costumed Monster Triathlon held around Halloween. He hosts a load of events, but one of his favorites is the Wounded Warrior Half Marathon and 10k—an event that raised over $60,000 to benefit military charities in 2013 alone. Whatever type of event he's organizing, Dan waits at the finish line to witness the runners experience "the satisfaction of completing the event and enjoying themselves."

The Liberty by the Lake Festival is back for another round of family-style Independence Day fun. The party kicks off with a trio of races designed to jump-start the patriotism. A parade follows, complete with patriotic music and floats dedicated to America?s famous landmarks and star-spangled airspace.

Stunt riders wow the crowd on BMX bikes throughout the day. From opening to 8 p.m., attendees can check out the business expo and learn more about local companies. Those with a competitive spirit can test their mettle in salsa-making, wakeboarding, and watermelon speed-eating competitions. Party rockers Professor D have plans to howl at the sun until it drags the day below the horizon, priming the sky for fireworks that cast red and blue sparks over the waters of Lake Lewisville.

An intensive four-week exercise regimen crafted by certified personal trainer Ally Davidson guarantees speedy results and sweat-addled brows for campers across the fitness spectrum. Ally’s local boot-camp staff sends muscles on a brisk march toward a firmer condition six days a week, helming total-body workouts that include interval training, plyometrics, and an abs-twisting assortment of timed strength and agility drills. The staff regularly switches up workout regimens to ensure that muscles don't become as bored as nihilists in a bounce house. Aware that not all recruits have the same motives for joining their flab-busting brigade, trainers customize their workouts to squeeze the best results from bodies of all ages and fitness abilities. The camp schedule varies based on location, with four early-morning camps to awaken muscles stuck on snooze and a pair of evening sessions to end the day on a note of high endorphins.
