The Gainesville Rock Gym staff cultivates years of international climbing experience as they shepherd visitors up the sheer faces and overhangs of their spacious gym. The facility's array of classes instruct single or small groups on all aspects of cliff facing, from anchor setting to lead climbing to yodeling SOS distress calls. Instructors help trainees hone teamwork and technique on special retreats or boost range of motion and flexibility during challenging workout sessions. To lift the sport to even greater heights, Gainesville Rock Gym also sponsors the UF Climbing Team, which placed second in the nation two years in a row.

Laurie Scott-Reyes has bounced around for most of her life. She was born in Germany, grew up in Alabama, and graduated high school in Indiana. She even spent more than two decades with the US Army as a photojournalist. Today, Laurie continues to bounce around—as a writer, as an artist, and as a fitness instructor during Loca-Motion Dance4Fitness classes. During her classes, Laurie leads groups through high-energy workouts set to the beat of handpicked songs from around the globe. She carefully plans and executes each routine, ensuring every muscle in the body gets a workout.
The Ark School of Fitness uses the Olympic lifts?the snatch, the clean, and the jerk?as the base for whipping bodies into shape.
