Unlike fashion trends, one-hit-wonders, and tattoos that say “I voted for Nixon,” flat stomachs and well-defined muscles never go out of style. Fueled by Joseph Pilates's core-focused philosophy and signature workout regimen, the certified instructors at A Body in Balance Pilates Studio strive to keep abs and limbs toned, leading group classes, private sessions within a mirrored studio stocked with row after row of reformer machines and other equipment, and preparing new instructors for BASI Pilates certification. When not helping beginner- and advanced-level students increase their muscle definition and balance, the staff spends its time and money donating to national and local organizations such as Three Square, Positively Kids, Woman’s Club of Summerlin and local schools.
Queens Dance Project’s team of lifelong dancers coach students through workout-oriented dance routines. During the newly unveiled pole-dancing workshops, students build muscle tone while executing spins and tricks under dimmed studio lights. Alternatively, Zumba classes keep heart rates high by pairing hip-swiveling moves with Latin beats, and tap-dancing sessions teach students how to make it rain using just their shoes. Youngsters can also build coordination and confidence at the studio, which has an age-stratified youth program to nurture kids 2 years and older with mat work and musical instruments.
Located at the borderline of Queens and Nassau in Long Island, RhythmZ Studio Dance & Fitness believes that when clients are having fun, they're motivated to keep up their fitness routines. At this vibrantly painted, Zumba-oriented fitness studio, classes are designed to feel more like dance parties than workouts. Students can take Zumba, Zumba Toning, and Zumba Sentao—which pair Latin beats with cardio and muscle-sculpting movements—as well as total-body-conditioning and salsa classes.
