With a lineage that traces back more than 30 years to its founders' respective schools, Tiger Rock Martial Arts has grown to more than 200 locations nationwide. Tiger Rock's primary focus is tae kwon do, through which certified trainers teach youngsters the skills to defend themselves, as well as confidence and discipline. Students are outfitted with an appropriate bow, arrowheads, and safety equipment, and can practice at indoor or outdoor ranges. At its 13,500 square foot facility—with more than 5,000 square feet of retail space—Grabow Outdoors offers archery, guns, and other hunting and fishing equipment, including bows manufactured on site.
A World Taekwondo Federation black belt, Master Justin Scarsella has been molding young martial artists since the age of 14. At his eponymous tae kwon do studio, students young and old delve into the martial arts in a structured, supportive, and positive environment. Under his tutelage, students aged 4 and older progress through classes that strengthen and tone the body while fostering discipline, leadership skills, and character development through cooperation, self-control, respect, and confidence.
In the heated water of Swimmers United, staff allot time for both learning and playing. Skill development is the top priority during group swimming lessons, where instructors maintain a 7:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Fun takes center stage at kids' pool parties, which can accommodate more than 25 kids or roughly one class president's security detail.
Led by director Carla Higginbotham, the instructors of Dance Trance aim to create a fun, lively workout using intuitive, easy-to-follow dance moves and upbeat music. The instructors demonstrate the routine without shouting disruptive directions as students shake and shimmy their way through strength building and cardio drills.
Rhythm N Motion's adult classes, which welcome dancers of all experience levels and backgrounds, include hip-hop fusion, ballroom, and burlesque strip aerobics. Burn calories and mold muscles with burlesque strip aerobics, a total-body workout that emphasizes fun, flirtation, and fitness set to old-school jazz music (no clothes are shed in the class). Ballroom 101 classes teach new techniques every week, regularly featuring the social swirls and shimmies of the tango, hustle, waltz, and foxtrot, and you don't need a partner.
