Under the careful supervision of Dr. Quan Nguyen, BioDerm Skin Care and Laser Center's licensed medical professionals perform a slew of noninvasive cosmetic services. Using IPL laser energy, they eliminate patient's unwanted hair, spider veins, and tattoos, or help them diminish the urge to smoke by directing laser beams at trigger areas, such as ears, faces, hands, or kitten tattoos. Though specializing in laser therapy, they extend their aesthetic reach into the anti-aging cookie jar, performing microdermabrasions and Botox and Restylane injections, along with proffering an array of skincare products, including BioDerm and Obagi.
Beth Aleksa, a busy mother of four, first turned to permanent makeup to cut down on the time she spent getting ready in the morning, and later decided to lend her Technicolor savvy to others via A Fine Line Permanent Cosmetics. Beth and fellow permanent-makeup artist Bill Moreland use an intradermal pigmentation process to tuck natural pigments of color into the dermis, making sparse eyebrows appear fuller and more defined without pencil or spray paint, and subtly accenting eyes. They further enhance faces with permanent makeup for lips, can cover stretch marks, and also offers long-lasting eyelash extensions in a range of lengths.
Mandy Mizzell has been a licensed stylist in the Dallas area for six years and currently works out of the upscale Firewheel Salons space. Inside her private treatment suite, she nimbly uses scissors to create one-of-a-kind looks that fit each client's aesthetic tastes and personality. In addition to haircuts and color treatments, Mandy specializes in hair extensions that can help people get the look of added length without having to sew scarves into their hair.
Nusrat, the cosmetologist and owner of Ashi Beauty Corner, specializes in correcting botched waxing jobs. "A vast majority of my clients have come to me due to having been previously 'brow-butchered,'" she said. As a remedy, she practices threading—an ancient hair-removal method that requires a thin string and nimble fingers.
Prior to each treatment, Nusrat loops a sterile thread around both her hands and tugs the loose end with her teeth. As she rolls the thread across the skin's surface, she traps unwanted hair and extracts it at the follicle level. Because threading avoids the use of topical agents, it's traditionally indicated for people with allergies or sensitive skin. Compared to waxing, it's often regarded as more precise—the technician can target one individual hair or an entire row of unruly threads.
Nusrat performs these treatments in private quarters. "The ambiance makes clients feel surrounded in comfort and enveloped by personal, attentive service," she said. Her personal studio resides within The Salons at Bella Suites, which lives inside Firewheel Town Center, which is nested within the belly of a matryoshka doll.
When you sit down in Skyler Bailey's salon chair, you're not just basking in the skills of a hairdresser. You're also experiencing the training of a fashion-model stylist and pageant coach, whose knowledge of hair and makeup is worthy of runways and centerfolds alike. At her private studio within The Salons at Bella Suites, she elevates each of her face-flattering haircuts and color services with meticulous styling, a skill she mastered in a former job at a blow-dry bar. "Styling hair is the best part of the service," she explains. "You may get a great haircut or color but if it isn't styled correctly, the hair doesn't look the best."
She also performs facial waxing and professional makeup applications, bringing out her clients' natural beauty with occasion-appropriate cosmetics for a wedding day, prom night, or Smurf reunion. But above all, she makes sure that every appointment is a relaxing one. "Clients go to salons to pamper themselves and have 'me' time," she says. "It should be all about them because life is hectic; there are limited times that we really can have everything about us."
