At Yoga by Gretchen, students from all walks of life find inspiration to foster their personal growth, physical fitness, and mental clarity. Gretchen and her team of instructors lead up to 25 students in yoga classes based in the Hatha and Vinyasa traditions, accommodating a variety of needs and goals. Beginner classes introduce students to yoga basics, Booty Ab yoga provides a more traditional fitness-class routine to tone bodies, and vigorous Vinyasa flow classes strengthen and stretch muscles with a series of challenging postures connected by focused breaths. In addition to yoga, the instructors also lead Pilates, Zumba, and kickboxing/boxing classes, in which ladies learn self-defense techniques to protect themselves from punching-bag assailants. The schools have been landing graduates at notable Chicago establishments for more than 60 years, but their connection with alums doesn’t end with their first gig. Graduates receive lifetime, personalized job-placement assistance and can call the school’s career hotline 24 hours a day to find out about job openings or trade meatloaf recipes.
The schools' focus on employment also shows in their bartending classes, which are modeled after on-the-job training and led by teachers with an average of more than 20 years of industry experience. The Tumblebear Gym program (walking toddler–age 6) draws in dinosaurs, Hollywood, and outer-space themes to keep youngsters engaged in the graceful, athletic movements of tumbling. Gymnasts old enough for school-age gymnastics classes (age 6–18) learn and practice more complicated skills on the spring floor, the uneven bars, the in-ground trampoline, and more.
