The YMCA is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That?s because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. All of our YMCA of Coastal Georgia locations embody these three values so that everyone regardless of age, gender or income is given the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y. With a variety of group fitness classes ranging from Zumba to family fit nights, spin classes to TRX and everything in between, you?re sure to find what you?re looking for at the YMCA! Our staff pumps up adult fitness regimens with aquatic fitness and boot-camp classes, basketball courts, personal-training sessions and so much more. We?ve also filled our fitness centers with free weights, cardio equipment, and weight machines. When they?re not helping adults trim down waistlines during Brazilian-jujitsu, cycling, and aerobics classes, staff members are getting back in touch with their inner children. They stimulate imagination, mental development, and growth as they lead children?s day camps, after-school programs, and numerous sports offerings.
Savannah Yoga Room's instructors focus on traditional Hatha styles, creating classes accessible to newbies and challenging enough for yoga veterans. In addition to teaching pupils to center their thoughts with a slowly linked sequence of poses, they introduce the basic breathing techniques needed to blow out a centenarian's birthday candles during Hatha Flow Level I sessions. In Hatha Flow Level II, they quicken the pace to ensure a more dynamic practice and incorporate meditation.
After nudging up the studio?s thermostat to around 85 degrees and setting off a miniature supernova to heat the space, they enlist strong Ashtanga postures during power yoga, harnessing the radiating heat to engage muscle groups across the entire body without sacrificing the style's mindful focus or four-part om-ing harmonies.
In 2010, Leslie Tucker Carey combined her love of Savannah with her love of Bikram yoga when she opened Bikram Yoga Savannah. The studio features a state-of-the art HVAC system, as well as antimicrobial carpeting. Within this comfortable, up-to-date space, instructors teach hot-yoga classes to students of all experience levels, whether they are first-timers or veteran yogis.
Daily live entertainment bolsters Bayou Cafe's menu of classic Cajun cuisine, such as jambalaya and po boy sandwiches, adorned with fresh, locally sourced seafood or spicy sausage and chicken. Diners can perch at the fully stocked bar and tap toes or phone lines to the beat of live blues and Southern rock music, which takes the stage nightly. Billiards, darts, and video games entertain guests between drinks. Exposed brick walls surround tables in the dining room, and an outdoor patio overlooks Savannah's historic, bustling River Street and its namesake waterway. The kitchen dishes up Southern-style morsels until the wee hours, allowing for late-night revelry and successfully executed surprise parties for pet owls.
Inspired by the fast-growing Anusara style, Yoga Me Fit opens minds, hearts, and bodies to an uplifting, peaceful philosophy that promotes physical and emotional well-being in a tight-knit group setting. Work up a sweat sporadically by opting for the 10-class pass, or commit to a curriculum with today's second option. The six-week course spends one week highlighting each of Anusara's five Universal Principles of Alignment, with a final cumulative session for reinforcement. The studio provides mats so students don't have to make their own out of sanitized jerky wrappers.
Although instructors Travis Clark and Jon Gillespie lead Southeast Photo Adventures's workshops and excursions, they share the teaching load with the shores of Tybee Island and the depths of Cloudland Canyon. Students shoot shoulder-to-shoulder with instructors amid these sprawls of striking Southeastern scenery, whether they're enrolled in 2.5-hour workshops, Foto Field Trips open to workshop grads, or weekend-long adventures. The field-trip-style outings are open to all skill levels, but beginners can also enhance their expertise in introductory courses on Photoshop, digital photography, and DSLR cameras' complex settings, which control everything from shutter speed to the tiny red light bulb behind each of our eyes.
