First opening its doors in 1818, the Savannah Theatre hosts a plethora of productions upon its well-seasoned stage. Decades later, he and Executive Artistic Director Patricia Cantwell continue to do just that at Charleston Ballet Theatre Center for Dance Education, training future generations of dancers and staging dazzling productions featuring guest artists and their own students. Guest Artists including award winning stars Alexey Kulpin, Sakura Oka, Kota Fujishima and others, are joined by Resident Choreographer Jill Eathorne Bahr, whose innovative work has brought new life to classics including Alice in Wonderland, The Rite of Spring, and The Firebird.
Anyone active in Savannah’s theatre community in the 70s and 80s would likely have encountered Tom Coleman III, a director who began his career at the Savannah Young People’s Theatre. He produced and directed more than 200 shows in the ensuing 35 years, culminating in the founding of the Savannah Community Theatre. The company often produces shows by local playwrights, along with a weekly, pirate-themed murder mystery dinner show.

This is the scene as one of Repticon's presenters educates attendees on the biology, behavior, and typing speeds of exotic cold-blooded creatures at one of the year-round shows held in cities across the country. Reptile and amphibian breeders, scholars, and handlers engage audiences in lectures and demonstrations in the midst of live reptile exhibits, family activities, and displays for exotic-pet supplies. Presentations may focus on the genetics of large snake species, the specifics of exotic-pet care, and the effect that tiny hats have on the image of arachnids such as tarantulas, scorpions, and spiders.
Part of the Savannah Dance Festival, Caliente showcases the seasoned rug cutters of Academy Ballroom International. Sambas, cha-chas, rumbas, and tangos raise the room temperature with sultry moves, quickening pulses and allowing haberdashers to easily reclaim stolen merchandise from melted snowmen. Colorful costumes further engage rapt eyes in onstage action with bright sequins and swirling folds. The show takes place at the cheery, greenery-filled Savannah Riverfront Marriott, with onsite restaurants and bars for a preshow or postshow drink to lubricate throats left dry from program-eating contests.
