We spoke with Jack Macaluso?Regional Social Media and Web Coordinator at Beauty Schools of America?about how the academies prepare students for careers in the real world and why it's important for the schools to give back to their communities.
On the schools' mission
Above all else, Jack says that the schools "try to focus and harness the students' creativity," while giving them all of the experience and practical skills they need not simply to be prepared to enter the work force, but to succeed and thrive. The relatively lengthy training programs ensure that aspiring stylists, cosmetologists, makeup artists, barbers, and massage therapists fully understand the intricacies of their chosen specialty, as well as what they need to do to continue advancing their future career according to Jack.
On the role of the instructors
With a roster of instructors that includes industry professionals with international spa and salon experience, Beauty Schools of America strives to give attendees a broad view of the numerous options open to them. Jack is also clear that the teachers' guidance isn't limited to classroom environments. When the advanced-level students are allowed hone their talents by performing treatments for actual clients, "an instructor or two will always be there to assist and answer questions," he says.
On the products that the students use during treatments
Students use brand name products like Moroccanoil, Sojourn, Nioxin, and others. Working alongside their instructors at modern service stations, these stylists use these products to craft en vogue cuts, color, styling and therapeutic practices.
On the schools' charitable involvement
Beauty Schools of America embraces opportunities to give back to its communities while providing real-world experience for students at the same time. Jack goes on to describe events where the schools' aspiring barbers and cosmetologists performed complimentary services for underprivileged residents, and he mentions one specific occasion when massage students provided free treatments for community members who participated in a bike ride dedicated to raising awareness about multiple sclerosis.

Facials are completed with the help of Dermalogica serums and microcurrent and microdermabrasion technology.
In-set blue floor lights greet guests as they stroll into mySpa, an upscale respite tucked within the InterContinental Miami Hotel. Though the spa’s modern décor is striking, the warm, friendly demeanor of the staff quickly makes clients feel at home as they walk back to one of the spa’s 10 treatment rooms. Within the calming spaces, aestheticians customize facials with Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion treatments designed to stimulate cell renewal by releasing a cool mist of oxygen over the skin, and rejuvenate bodies with scrubs and wraps that incorporate European bathing techniques. Candle lit hallways also lead clients to various nooks around the spa where they can find a SpaJet2 hydro capsule, nail salon with two pedicure thrones, and fully-stocked locker rooms with drench showers and eucalyptus steam rooms.
The spacious retreat also provides guests with free weights and a Technogym cardio theater in the fitness center, as well as a spa boutique filled with beauty accessories and clothing. And if clients just want a moment to relax, separate men and women’s lounges cater to them by providing a quiet space with healthy drinks and snacks.

With hairstyling, extensions, facials, massages, pedicures, and other aesthetic services, they cover beauty needs literally from head to toe. The team customizes each service to the client's style and needs, and they provide complimentary tips for maintaining salon results at home or after accidentally popping a rain cloud.
The stylists at Harmony Salon balance outer beauty with inner peace, adhering to owner Leo's belief that true allure radiates outward. Between the soothing sea-green and white walls of the salon, stylists draw out each client's inner chic with hair, nail, and waxing services. Treated with Alfaparf Milano and Coppola hair products, strands lose their split ends in exchange for vibrant color and shine, which can be purchased from rainbows using bags of hair. Creative pampering sessions for feet include the fruit-smoothie-bath pedicure and Leo's Volcanic pedicure, which leaves toes hot enough to melt clogs into stylish open-toe shoes.
Sara Manis created Beauty Essence as a one-stop shop for beauty services. From basic pedicures to spellbinding prom hairstyles, her salon strove to meet its clients' each and every whim. Not one to sit idly, she soon added 10 new stylists and nail technicians in order to let guests choose from a wider selection of experts. Today, the salon's range of specialties has expanded to include hairstyling and coloring, updos, manicures, spa pedicures, and waxing on a service menu complete enough to refine clients getting ready for either a night out on the town or a night at home sitting in a gold-plated La-Z-Boy.
