My Fit Mommy owner and director Mary Damato is passionate about giving moms a place to get fit while they spend quality time with their kids. A mother of three herself, she saw a need for a laid-back, mom-focused workout space, where moms could interact with other adults while still participating in an intense workout. Each outdoor, boot-camp-style class is led by a certified instructor and focuses on burning calories through circuit training and toning the body using small weights.

Climbers cling to carefully placed hand grips, strategizing their way up the side of the rock-like cliff. They have come to conquer the indoor mountains rising up inside Central Rock Gym's four indoor facilities, which are spread throughout New England. At each, experts guide novice climbers through introductory classes or supervise more seasoned members scaling the walls' highest heights. Memberships unlock access to all four facilities, gear for the first month, and the use of exercise equipment and weights. In addition to climbing and conditioning, members can also take advantage of fitness classes such as yoga and Pilates. Each gym also welcomes non-members, whether they're trying things out with a day pass or interested in events including birthday parties, summer camps, and corporate team-building breakouts.

For some, like Mission Fitness owner Matt Mund, fitness comes easily. Matt starred on basketball and softball teams throughout his youth, and won his first weightlifting contest in college. But that doesn’t mean Matt, or his team of certified personal trainers, only welcomes equally gifted athletes to their personal-training sessions and three group fitness classes. To the contrary, personal training caters specifically to your goals, whether they’re to lose a hefty chunk of weight or tighten up already sculpted muscles. Likewise, boot campers each move at their own pace through challenging circuits, and bodies of all shapes burn calories via different styles including boot camp, boxing, and yoga.

The Fitathlon Challenge blends the format and philosophy of decathlons and triathlons with the accessibility of a 5K. Great for all fitness levels, the event divides participants into four categories—Newbie, Beginner, Challenger, and Competitor. Separated into waves, runners move through a course fraught with obstacles designed to test strength, endurance, athleticism, and mental toughness. These obstacles include tire flips, wall climbs, and hill sprints that leave bodies sweaty and fatigued and minds feelings as confused as a fish in a geology class. Those competing in the Competitor division are eligible for cash and prizes awarded to the top three finishers in the male and female groups. A portion of all proceeds goes to benefit a local charity.
