GlamMe Beauty Studio?s team travel to homes, places of work, and dentists? offices to pamper clients. They also work at 11 salons in LA and surrounding areas. Stylists cut hair, magically grow hair with extensions, and embellish strands with semipermanent color and highlights. They also beautify nails during mani-pedis, wax away fuzz on faces, and add drama to peepers with eyelash extensions.

Beneath flowery wall murals, children settle into pink princess pedicure stations and Toy Story salon chairs as stylists dress their nails and shape their locks. A stream of animated classics plays across TV screens in the salon, keeping kids' heads from swiveling as stylists sculpt their manes, manicure their fingers, or blow-dry their new 'dos. Following first haircuts, wee ones cop free certificates that fit right in inside scrapbooks or stand out in contests to redesign the state flag. Parents can also participate, sinking into larger chairs for a cut or style while their children enjoy a play area complete with beanbags, books, and toys.

To call The Body Shop a mere skin and body care store is to miss half of what makes it special. Late founder Dame Anita Roddick was a pioneer for ethical business practices; upon opening her first store in Brighton, England, in 1976, she developed company values such as "Defend Human Rights" and "Protect The Planet." She somehow balanced principles and profit, partnering in global campaigns with UNICEF, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and the United Nations, all while ultimately expanding her brand into 2,500 locations in over 60 international markets. After her death in 2007, then-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said, ?She campaigned for green issues for many years before it became fashionable to do so and inspired millions to the cause by bringing sustainable products to a mass market. . . . She was an inspiration.?

Indeed, the Body Shop exhibits an eco-friendliness and social consciousness that's hard to come by in a company of its size. Its products have been fair-trade since 1987, and its Against Animal Testing movement led to an EU-wide ban of animal testing of cosmetics. The products are made from ingredients harvested from around the world: shea butter from Ghana goes into body scrubs and butters, and Indian artisans craft wooden massagers and tote bags that are screenprinted by hand. But all that isn't to say the company's production practices overshadow its final products. Skincare treatments such as the brand?s iconic body butters, facial products, and gift collections often appear in Allure, Marie Claire, Lucky, Seventeen and other national publications.

More than 25 years ago, Kundan Sabarwal opened the doors of a modest 400-square-foot skincare spa in New Delhi, working diligently to gently and efficiently eradicate her clients' unwanted body hair through a blend of ancient techniques and modern indulgences. With a bit of hard-earned success, Ziba Beauty hopped the pond, eventually expanding to 17 locations in two U.S. states. Each studio embraces American style while retaining its overseas roots, amplifying faces and bodies with traditional Indian cosmetic adornment and hair removal. By rolling small loops of cotton thread over brows and other facial areas, threading specialists can remove pesky fuzz without harming the skin or skipping over fine hairs. For more sizeable zones, Sumita Wax, which was developed in India exclusively for Ziba Beauty, quickly sends errant hairs packing on the face and body. Artistic hands ink bodies with the ornate semipermanent designs of traditional mehndi, or cloak clients in sparkle with intricate art in a choice of 32 glitter mehndi colors and shimmering crystals, readying skin for special events better than a full-body tuxedo tattoo.

The aestheticians at Orchid Skin Care keep clients at their most beautiful with personalized services for the whole body. Using exclusively Yon-Ka skincare products, the staffers regenerate faces with facials, peels, and microdermabrasion treatments backed by nourishing botanicals. Meanwhile, eyelash extensions and permanent makeup enhance facial features without the hassle of morning cosmetics routines. The experts also melt tension through aroma-infused massages and wraps, and spray tanning imbues skin with a UV-free bronze glow to help prepare for trips to the beach or attempts to infiltrate the Olympics as a third-place medal.
