Essence Laser & Wellness Essence Laser & Wellness’s Dr. Melinda C. O'Rourke and a diverse staff deliver a comprehensive repertoire of services, incorporating techniques as disparate as laser technology and acupuncture to enhance clients’ health and appearance. Aestheticians take a comprehensive approach to caring for skin by giving visitors analyses and consultations before each facial or chemical peel featuring SkinCeuticals skincare products. Skilled laser techs remake skin’s topography by passing heated light rays over sun spots, sagging skin, and portraits of Gary Busey graffitied across the body. Staffers also dole out a variety of elixirs clients can use to achieve youthful good looks from home, including Latisse, glominerals, and colorescience products.

Donna Lapetina, owner and head aesthetician at Skin Solutions Medical Spa, has spent the last decade caring for aging skin—including her own. Donna and her team work their age-defying magic under the direction of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Sheila Boyle, whose career includes time as a flight surgeon, a lieutenant commander in the military, and a volunteer speaker on skin cancer. The staff’s specialty services include microdermabrasion, peels, and facials, as well as intensive acne treatments. Dr. Boyle performs all Botox and dermal-filler procedures herself to safely keep crow’s-feet, frown lines, and worry lines at bay. Clients receive their treatments in private, earth-toned rooms that mix the serenity of a spa with the professionalism of a medical office. Rather than buying leftover potions from local sorcerers, Skin Solutions Medical Spa has developed its own line of products, including cleansers, eye creams, and an exfoliating scrub. The gentle solutions are formulated with ingredients such as green-tea extract, oil of calendula, and cranberry extract.

When asked what the name of their spa means, the owners of Cairde Wellness, Inc. point to their Irish ancestry and kindly reply that Cairde (pronounced cor-deh) is the Gaelic word for friends. It’s a fitting name, as the spa’s staff is known for greeting even strangers with a welcoming smile before leading them through an array of soothing services. While prone patrons drift into a rejuvenating slumber, therapists mend stresses and injuries with craniosacral, reflexology, deep-tissue, and Swedish techniques. They also unclog waxy ears with candling treatments and purge bodily toxins with ionic footbaths. Cairde opens the doors to its soothing oasis Tuesday–Friday from 10 a.m. to close, with Saturday appointments available by calling in advance or tattooing intentions on another client's back.

Skin issues come to Therapy World to say their goodbyes. Under the care of Dr. Terry Grossman, the medspa's staff of medical aestheticians provides effective healing and anti-aging therapies to help skin look its best—and to help clients feel their best. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the team starts each new patient relationship with individualized care. That begins with a consultation during which skin issues and current skincare regimens are examined. Then, based on the patient's goals, corrective skin procedures are recommended, such as facial peels or microdermabrasion. Dermaplaning, threading, and reiki also comprise the long list of helpful treatments the center is known for, each contributing their own benefits to overall patient well being.

The Thin Spa's staff has a two-pronged approach to enhancing their clients' lives. First, they help them reduce fat and tighten skin with ultrasonic cavitation and radio-frequency treatments, which are more high-tech than building a thinner-looking robot clone. Alternatively, clients relax under a range of soothing massages, including Swedish and more in-depth myofascial-release modalities.

Salt Spa is operated by Dr. Nita Desai, a family physician, holistic medical doctor, and certified Ayurvedic practitioner who believes that halotherapy is as therapeutic as it is relaxing. It's certainly the latter: clients laze upon adjustable lounge chairs in the halotherapy cave, meditating or even napping as soft music plays in the dimly lit space. As they rest, their lungs absorb salted air, the purpose of which is to encourage mucus production and cilia function in order to expel pollens, viruses, and toxins from the body. The removal of stagnant mucus is also said to soften the effects of many chronic conditions, including asthma, sinusitis, allergies, and hay fever. The source of this therapeutic air is the two tons of salt that cover the walls and floor of the cave, plus the halogenerator, a device that grinds the compound into a dry aerosol that circulates throughout the room on tiny helicopters.
