Helmed by Sarge, a certified trainer, U.S. Army veteran, and cofounder of Da Vinci BodyBoard Fitness Europe, Naples Fitness Boot Camp's motivating all-levels workouts propel clients toward fitness goals. Like a snowman's fingerprints, no two sessions are identical, but all include one hour of physical challenges such as obstacle courses, short-distance runs, yoga poses, and jump-rope drills. Strength training with kettlebells and sandbags tones the entire body and builds muscle mass to burn calories efficiently. The schedule varies by season and typically includes men's, women's, and coed workouts. Classes will take place outside, rain or shine, except during hurricanes, floods, and falling-piano storms.
Inside the health-conscious confines of Jabz Health and Fitness, Brickhouse Bootcamp helps clients convert their weaknesses into strengths via intense cardio workouts. Whether they are flipping tires, swinging sledgehammers, engaging in partner drills or battling it out with ropes, participants sculpt leaner muscles and a stronger core during each session. Committed trainers personalize workouts for all fitness levels, all inside a 18,000-square-foot workout warehouse hosting more than 1,000 cardio exercise machines.
Alongside the hordes of gym standards, including treadmills, stair steppers, and elipticals, dwell stationary recumbent bicycles and iVibe Powerplates, which are touted for their ability to give exercisers a speedy, low-impact workout. Stationary bicycles populate the spin studio, which is also outfitted with a massive flatscreen TV and a bumping sound system. In addition to spinning classes, the trainers lead group iVibe Powerplate sessions, and experienced mixed martial artists helm action-packed MMA classes.
Just as the workouts scale to students of all fitness levels, they extend to those of all ages as well. The center's CrossFit Kids program is designed to help children and the adults who play them on TV build a solid foundation for a fit, healthy life by challenging them to fun, functional workouts that mimic the movements they do every day, such as jumping, pulling, running, and climbing. Like the adult version, CrossFit Kids is just as beneficial to less-active children as it is to youth athletes, as the challenges are scaled to each student's ability and success is measured on an individual level.
The staff at Naples Fit outfits the gym with sets of medium to light weights that prevent injury while building muscle mass. One-hour group workouts encourage a supportive, energetic environment, much like a pride of super-nice lions on a hunt. At the cornerstone of each workout is high-intensity interval training, which combines short periods of intense exercise with less intense recovery periods.
During coach Celia Fellows's boot-camp classes at Outdoor Fitness, benches and trees are transformed into fitness equipment as clients work to improve their strength, balance, and posture. Early-morning sessions bring a higher level of intensity, whereas afternoon classes are more relaxed but still challenging. Classes may include everything from cardio workouts to exercises with resistance bands.
West Coast Boot Camp is a gym with no walls. Trainer Stacey Lins eschews stagnant air and clanging machines for wide-open spaces, turning clients into all-terrain exercisers. Groups take to sandy beaches and synchronize crunches with the waves or pour into empty parking garages to bang out pushups on cool concrete.
