Double jab, straight right, left hook, straight right. Fists fly and feet dance across The Fitness Asylum floor during boxing classes that turn in-the-ring techniques into full-body workouts. Boxing is just one of several different classes offered at The Fitness Asylum—a boutique fitness studio created as an alternative to mainstream gyms, which are often crowded, and at-home gyms, where the only spotters are pets. Many of these classes incorporate workouts using dumbbells, kettlebells, and even tires that add variety for optimal results. The Fitness Asylum's Signature Body Challenge bootcamp program offers exercisers a bounty of educational tools and support from others on the same journey.
After earning her NFPT certification and conquering her own weight-loss goals, fitness aficionado Mercedes founded Rogue Motivation and Movement to offset mainstream and monotonous exercise regimens. Her boot-camp programs encourage clients to "Go Rogue!" and combat dreary routines with rock climbing, mud obstacle courses, and lifts that replace dumbbells with fidgety dachshunds. Fit Fusion classes combine cardio with a sampling of techniques from popular fitness schools including Zumba, Pilates, and kickboxing and private training and nutritional guidance help clients tackle overall wellness goals.

For 40 years of her life, Lisa Lavoie went without a single urge to perform muscle-toning spins on every chrome pole she came across. Now, she can't imagine a life where she doesn't artfully maneuver around a smooth metallic post on a regular basis. Once she discovered the intense yet fun exercise form in 2009, she fell in love with it and opened her own studio less than four years later. Today, Lavoie dedicates herself to eliminating pole dancing's negative stigma and exposing it as the artistic strength-training workout that it truly is. With help from a team of certified instructors, she leads rigorous, one-hour classes that aim to build confidence levels, upper-body strength, and core muscles. In addition to leading pole fitness classes, instructors helm other out-of-the-box fitness classes, including aerial silks and belly-dancing classes.
There's a little bit of everything at New England Fitness Compound. Unlike the typical CrossFit gym, the space contains both cardio machines and functional-training equipment. Without the variety, its trainers wouldn't be able to host such a wide variety of classes. From CrossFit and FUNctional Fit to MMA, boot camp, and Pilates, the mix of battling ropes, free weights, and punching bags equips instructors for every class.
