The instructors at Music House School of Music understand that music is a language and that languages should be used to express yourself. That’s why they’ve abandoned prescriptive instruction in favor of collaborative learning in a community setting, placing the music that their students want to hear at the center of their teaching programs. During private lessons, students forge a path through the genres of their choice, from rock to jazz to classical to birdsong. They show off their progress during monthly club meetings, working with a tight-knit group of like-minded musicians until they feel confident enough for public performance. In group classes, kids as young as 6 get to tickle ivory, strum steel, and set their uvulas abuzz with their burgeoning baritones.
On May 4 from 12–4 p.m., Music House School of Music celebrates the grand opening of its Lenexa location, which will feature live music, free classes and lessons for ages 6+, surprise goody bags, and refreshments. All attendees will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win six months of free music instruction.
Michelle Childs Beedle practically grew up performing—she began at the ripe young age of 3. Since then, she's taught competitive singers, snagged roles in various movies, and even won two Emmy awards. With Antonia Studios, she shares her talents not only through voice and piano lessons, but also by painting faces and hosting princess parties.
Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga has developed a loyal base of students who are known to the staff by name, even without name tags or name tattoos. The motivating instructors teach a form of Vinyasa yoga, a style defined by flowing, powerful movements in combination with strategic breathing patterns and techniques. Power yoga beefs up the traditional by increasing the athleticism like a post-spinach Popeye. Sessions stretch muscles and relax the mind, while providing an excellent fat-burning cardio workout—preparing participants mentally and physically for the rise of cloned dinosaurs. With an unlimited class pass, you will be able to sweat, stretch, and strengthen to your limbs' content for one entire month. Students of all skill levels are welcome to join the classes, which are conveniently scheduled at multiple times throughout each day.
Revolution Gym helps guests shape up with fitness classes that team calorie-burning cardio with muscle-toning weight training. Seasoned teachers—including pro athletes and trainers—propel students toward goals with structured workouts and industrial fans that shout motivational maxims. Experienced fighters lead kickboxing sessions for students of all levels, teaching proper jab form, while hardcore classes efface musculoskeletal torpors by employing weights and medicine balls to make muscles burn with satisfaction, like an insult uttered from the lips of a sarcastic fire swallower. Clients can also find their inner hardbodies during boot camp sessions. Group workouts take place throughout the day, including early mornings and lunch hours, and fitness students can discover temporal directions via the gym’s summer and fall-spring schedules.
The Bar Method is a single full-body workout—but in a way, it seems more like four workouts. The class—which takes place at the ballet barre and on mats—blends interval training, toning isometrics, dance conditioning, and elements of physical therapy. Participants improve posture and work all the major muscle groups at the West Plaza or Leawood locations. The Bar Method also transforms physiques—flattening abs, toning arms, and slimming thighs. For added convenience, workout participants can sign up their kids for childcare at the studio's kids room while they attend class.
