The instructors at Joyfulution guide bodies through a full schedule of diverse courses aimed at fortifying mental, physical, and spiritual health. Rhythmic and energetic Prana Flow sessions unfurl in a room heated to 78 degrees, helping students to find focus through sequenced poses, chanting, and 15 minutes of silent meditation. Sensory-based, empowering Nia classes are set to soul-stirring tunes and draw from martial-arts, dance-arts, and healing-arts disciplines, and Belly Bliss Belly Dance introduces pupils to the ancient practice of french-braiding via skillful torso twists. With 12-foot-high ceilings and 2,500 square feet of toe-massaging floor, Joyfulution accommodates everyone, even students on pogo sticks or under top hats.
On the wall above the inner entryway at Bikram Yoga Folsom, a hand-painted quote reminds practitioners why they keep coming back: "You're never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again". It's this eternal potential for personal betterment that fuels the studio's superheated classes, which combine Bikram yoga's 26 postures and two breathing exercises into workouts that stretch the mind as well as the body. Seasoned instructors lead each class, using experience gained through their extensive training and own personal journeys to create an atmosphere that's both nurturing and challenging, helping students of all skill levels to learn and thrive. In addition to an expansive practice room that's often awash in ample natural light, their vibrant facility houses spacious locker rooms with private showers, and even a relaxing seating area.
The 17-strong staff at Sattva Yoga, Pilates & Ayurveda brings an abundance of experience and certifications to each class, whether yoga, Pilates, or Barre. KCRA awarded the wellness emporium the title of Best Pilates Studio in 2010 and nominated it as a finalist for Best Yoga Studio in 2011. The team gears its yoga classes toward helping participants achieve tranquility, while directing their Pilates focus toward strengthening core muscles both in clients and in apples. They also teach two variations of Booty Barre, one meant to augment a Pilates regimen with its cardio component, and one that builds on both yoga and Pilates with long, fluid dance movements.
At East Wind Yoga, instructors have options for every skill level. Basic classes ease newcomers and returning students into the body mechanics of yoga. Flow classes improve their breathing and cardiovascular endurance, and yin classes combine postures from hatha yoga with deep stretches to address any joint compression and misalignment. Held in a room heated at 105-110 degrees, hot yoga classes help purge toxins after a long day of sleep-testing sarcophagi. Intense Yosu yoga targets balance through the use of soft and rubbery BOSU balls.
Each of the studio's two locations offers a welcoming interior of paper lanterns, exposed brick, and stacks of colorful yoga mats for rental.
Inside ShriKula Yoga's spacious, citrus-hued studio, owner Trish Pietrzak fosters a community-oriented collective of instructors and students who gather for classes designed to accommodate all skill levels and physical abilities. Under the tutelage of certified instructors, students work at their own level during more than 25 weekly classes, such as wall yoga, yin yoga, bliss yoga, yoga for kids aged 7–12, and hot power yoga taught in 100 degrees. At all other times, the main studio boasts temperatures of 80 degrees, which helps promote pliable muscles and comfort cold-blooded spirit geckos. Students looking for a way to strengthen their core and improve their flexibility outside of class can try out the apparatus wall in a separate room, where a system of supportive straps and swings helps them achieve advanced poses and tone muscles safely. After class, mat mavens can change back into the costumes of their pedestrian alter egos in men's and women's changing rooms, then enjoy a complimentary cup of tea in the Kula lounge and tea bar or in their outdoor seating area.
For more than 35 years, massage therapists at The Cabin Holistic Healing Center have helped bodies relax and heal. Inside the studio’s East Indian–themed atmosphere, staff members use Swedish and deep-tissue techniques as well as aromatherapy, easing the senses as their hands work to boost circulation and joint flexibility. The center also boasts an infrared sauna, which is ideal for couples who can relax and sip non-alcoholic beverages, available for purchase. Morning and evening restorative yoga sessions are ideal for begins and those with health restrictions, and meditation fosters a deeper connection with yourself than is possible by merely high-fiving a mirror. Seven days a week, students flock to the balmy studio to sweat out toxins and build strong, lean muscles in Hot Yoga At Sunrise's all-levels yoga classes. Each of the studio's passionate instructors specializes in specific yoga modalities, including the athletic Vinyasa flow, strengthening Core Power yoga, restorative Yin yoga—which emphasizes stillness and healing—and Bikram-inspired classes performed in sweat-inducing 105-degree heat to melt any snowmen trying to pass as humans. This hot-yoga style originally inspired owners Bobby and Robin Carpenter to open their studio in 2005, after they noticed that Bobby's running vastly improved with dedicated practice. Now, the two share their passion for the workout with others and practice it daily in their 60- to 90-minute sweat sessions.
