Eclipz Hair Studio Spa is a full-service beauty oasis whose mani-pedi maven has been sprucing cuticles and doting on nail beds for more than 25 years. Pampering begins with a beguiling sugar scrub, just rough enough for bad-boy-loving dry skin cells to pack up and run away with it. Hydration, relaxation, and Halloween ensue, with hand masks and a pedal-paraffin treatment that envelops feet in a cocoon of warm waxen bliss. Eclipz also provides myriad hues of OPI polishes to swathe convex keratin caps in luxurious coats of pigmented polish.
Salon de Futur’s stylists, massage therapist, and aesthetician work together to keep clients feeling relaxed and looking their best. They dress up strands with golden highlights and transform short manes with hair extensions, which leave locks long enough to tie the Empire State Building to the Space Needle or just to go from the neck to past the shoulders. Their exfoliating facials shed dead skin cells, and their relaxing massages unwind knotted muscles. The salon also impacts the community by offering free haircuts to clients that opt to donate their chopped-off strands to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that creates wigs for underprivileged children in need.
Sisters Kendra and Kara co-own the salon, along with Karen, who has 20 years of experience as an aesthetician. Kendra dedicates her skill both to her business and to area beauty schools, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to its community.
A wildly successful alternative to traditional day spas—its more than 300 locations blanket 36 states and half a dozen countries—Planet Beach is a futuristic relaxation station where state-of-the-art machines administer all the spa and tanning services. These friendly automatons sometimes replace familiar treatments, as in the Luminous facial, a light-based service that delivers blemish-busting results similar to those of a conventional facial. But other equipment maps out new spa territory entirely: the Hydro-Derma Fusion chamber moisturizes the whole body with nutrient-rich steam in order to offset the effects of a dry climate or a rear-end collision with a salt truck. Other machines whiten teeth, spray-tan skin, and massage muscles.
Planet Beach operates on a gym-style membership system, meaning that members purchase packages or pay flat monthly rates. As members spend more time at the spa, they get to know the helpful assistants who are always on hand to demonstrate how to use the equipment without activating its ability to cry.
Yolanda can calm the wildest of hair using a smoothing treatment that infuses strands with keratin, a type of protein that lends natural hair its structure. Yolanda works alongside a team of beauty professionals who cut and color hair, wax away unwanted fuzz, and wrap clients in spearmint or seaweed. They also provide a variety of nail services, including mani-pedis, gel-polish applications, and acrylics.
Kelly Muzall, registered nurse and founder of Estudio de Piel, surrounds herself with beauty professionals who continually pursue ongoing education. Their credentials, like every DeLorean ever made, reach into the past and future—licensed massage therapist Kevin Barry has more than a quarter century of experience in the field, but has broadened his skill set to include deep-water massage and spiritual medicine. Physician assistant Katie O’Brien held director-level positions at clinics across the heartland before planting roots at Estudio de Piel. She also founded a consulting business that trains physicians and nurses to administer injectables. Though Barry and O’Brien represent only two of several professionals, they embody the level of expertise at Estudio de Piel. Each time someone clinches a new certification, the spa adds another service. Since opening, the spa has added microdermabrasions, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, and laser treatments to its menu.
