Good-Life Gourmet’s is a case study in multitasking. In its open kitchen, Chef Eric, an alum of the French Culinary Institute, routinely fries his signature falafel, teaches his cooking techniques to budding chefs, and prepares gourmet catering spreads. Although Chef Eric accomplishes a lot when he’s working, he maintains a fun, light-hearted environment, playing whimsical pranks on his coworkers, who include his three brothers and a team of local high-school students.
At Good-Life’s sandwich shop, a rotating menu gives palates the royal treatment with the aforementioned falafel, sliced-steak wraps, and butter-poached lobster rolls. Meanwhile, the kitchen’s BYOB cooking classes cover topics ranging from tapas to basic knife techniques, such as how to turn two meat cleavers into a huge pair of scissors. The culinary team tailors its catering feasts to each event, and pours its remaining creativity into the pop-up restaurant, Restaurant Maize, open occasionally in locations throughout the city.
Eco Green Cleaners drivers zip throughout Armonk, Pleasantville, and Bronxville, picking up and dropping off clothes of all kinds. Each garment is meticulously dry cleaned with nontoxic and biodegradable solvents—or with hydrocarbon dry-cleaning techniques—and processed with energy-efficient machines for a minimal impact on the environment. Clean clothes are returned in biodegradable or reusable bags, and the cleaners recycle their hangers to reduce waste. In addition to its dry-cleaning and shirt-laundry services, Eco Green also cleans leather, suede, and rugs, preserves wedding dresses, and alters clothes to accommodate weight changes or tail growth.
Oversize sunglasses, novelty hats, or simple smiles bedeck partygoers at weddings, birthdays, and corporate events as they pile into Fox Photo Lounge’s spacious photo booths. Behind the booth’s custom privacy drape, guests strike free-form poses while a modern digital camera clicks color or black-and-white photos. The prints—which can be arranged in single, double, or four-photo layouts—reel out of the printer embossed with the details of the event, helping commemorate the occasion when hosts file them into a complimentary scrapbook or the filing cabinet in their handbags.
Fox Photo Lounge attendants set up all equipment before events and stay on hand for the duration of the rental to ensure a smooth, problem-free evening. In addition to personalized prints and decorative scrapbooks, all photo packages include a USB storage device filled with photos guests can share online or print at home.
When cast members from The Real Housewives of New Jersey stopped at Marra's Restaurant for a bite, the owner asked neighboring photographer Mike Kortoci to take a picture. The ladies loved his work so much that, after a tour of his studio, they asked Mike to film an on-camera segment for the show. Snapping shots of celebs isn't uncommon for Mike—according to Ridgewood News, his famous clientele has included the Baldwin brothers and America's Next Top Model –winner CariDee English.
For the most part, however, Mike lends his artistic eye and more than 20 years of experience to creating customized portraits for his everyday clients, including kids and families. He snaps primarily black-and-white images during on-location shoots and inside his 2,000-square-foot studio. Afterward, he retouches clients' favorite shots, removing red eye or blinking specters, and preserves them on canvas or watercolor-paper prints.
Kesha Lambert Photography and the AboutFace Makeup Artist Network teamed up to create Lash to Lens, a one-stop shop for customized portraiture and modern lifestyle photography. Published in the New York Times, Boston Herald, and OK! magazine, Kesha Lambert and her supporting cast of savvy shutterbugs create a relaxed and fun environment for capturing life’s most memorable moments, whether it be a candid family photo, a sizzling boudoir portrait, or a reproduction of The Last Supper starring a litter of beagles. Each session is tailored to the client’s style and personality, incorporating clever props and interesting locales to create a customized photo shoot as unique as the subjects it snaps. AboutFace’s senior makeup artist, Charlene Armstrong, uses top-quality beauty products to hide blemishes, eliminate shine, conceal red eyes, and distract attention from obtrusive bunny ears, resulting in camera-ready countenances.
Julia Juliati inherited a fine camera sense from her father, a photographer, and honed it over a decade of portrait shooting. Juliati helps women unwind and showcase their sensuality in a contemporary studio, producing photos and albums to give to significant others or presidential biographers. Juliati Photography has certain props—such as masks and feathers—available for use during photo shoots, but customers must bring their own outfits and uncopyrighted facial expressions.
