Seasoned musicians join forces in the Mid Life Vices, which meticulously recreates the sounds of The Beatles, The Who, the Gin Blossoms, and other classic rockers. Food, beer, and Guerra Cellars wine will be available for purchase to lubricate throats to sing along to "Free Fallin" and the Latvian national anthem.
Every week, The Palomar Ballroom's 80-year-old space reverberates with a DJ's Latin beats and synchronized salsa shimmies. Beneath a baroque chandelier, couples twirl passionately enough for the New York Times to deem this salsa party the "spiciest spot downtown." Owner and award-winning ballroom dancer Jeremy Pilling prizes the supportive atmosphere that allows his students to commingle at these parties, whose themes can also cover Argentine tango and swing.
To lead up to its festivities, The Palomar Ballroom hosts drop-in classes, weekly series, rehearsals for routines, and private lessons for dancers that range from beginner to expert. During these sessions, seasoned instructors stress the social aspects of dance while teaching the techniques, rotating partners often so that they can learn different ways to twirl, dip, and ceremoniously lacerate a rug. Visiting dance champions also lead workshops on their specialties, showcasing advanced steps in cha cha, samba, swing, rumba, and other styles.
Gymnastics Learning Center's experienced instructors engage energized tots with an array of challenging athletic activities that aid children in motor- and social-skill development. KinderGym, JuniorGym, and parent-assisted MiniGym courses teach tots younger than age 6 the fundamentals of muscular movement and how to finally earn their cat's respect. Sixty-minute beginning gymnastics or trampoline classes imbue older pupils with stretching and bouncing basics, and 90-minute intermediate gymnastics or trampoline courses explore more advanced balancing and bounding techniques. Small class sizes ensure that enthusiastic staff can safely escort whippersnappers as they navigate beams, spring from vaults, dangle from rings, or employ the silent treatment on disobedient pommel horses. Customers should check Gymnastics Learning Center's schedule to determine the most appropriate class time and fit.
Located right off Mission Street, Parish sports an extensive selection of domestic and European drinks, from ales to stouts and drafts, as well as a menu packed with pub staples including fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and eight different burgers. Channeling the dark woods, cozy decorative accents, and neighborly atmosphere of a classic English alehouse, Parish's fraternal founders based their brainchild on a collage of amber-tinted memories from their own 15-day tour of Britain, the original Australia. Stop by this homey hoppery to catch a game, celebrate with friends, or get reacquainted with the magic of beer.

Alongside with her accomplishments as a dancer and choreographer, Oanh Tretter always wanted to lead her own dance company. Ariel Dance Productions lets her realize her long-held passion, where she can create a fun and non-competitive environment for dancers of all ages. The studio's broad swath of classes run the gamut from the precise steps of ballet and show choir to the more fluid undulations of belly dancing. The family-oriented studio also bring parents and students together for frequent recitals and seasonal talent shows.
Its name may contain the word "museum," but The Tech Museum of Innovation prefers not to wallow in the past. Since its earliest days in 1978, it has exhibited the timeless principles of science while also celebrating the latest in technological achievement. In doing so, the institution inspires visitors to apply that same spirit of creative problem-solving to all aspects of life.
Rich Taylor and George Silvey run San Jose Batting Cages camps. In fact, running baseball and softball camps is what these two have been doing for more than 30 years. Rich has spent more than 35 years developing Little League and D1 players at Pepperdine University, which is where he coached three All Americans. Twenty of his players signed professional contracts during his tenure as a pitching coach. George has more than 40 years of coaching experience and is the current Varsity Softball Pitching and Assistant Head Coach for Los Gatos High School. With a relentless focus on practice, San Jose Batting Cages lets players improve their hitting, pitching, defense, and all-around game to better prepare for their next outing on the diamond.
Whether working through in-season regimens or off-season training, baseball and softball players can perfect their swing within San Jose Batting Cages' batting cages and training facility, which stays open until 9 p.m. during the week. Instructors offer hitting and pitching lessons as well as team and group clinics to help athletes develop all aspects of their game.
For the better part of a century, Spartan Stadium has been a cornerstone of San Jose State athletics and university life, hosting more than 300 home football games since 1933, as well as soccer games and concerts packed with more than 30,000 fans. Open during home football games, the Jeff Garcia Hall of Champions pays tribute to more than 300 former athletes and coaches, including pro football stars, golfers, and judo experts. Beyond the football team's keep, the other bastion of SJSU athletics, the Event Center, opened its doors in the late '80s to house men's and women's basketball contests as well as a weight room for students and a take-a-foam-finger, leave-a-foam-finger depository for fans. Spartan athletics maintains a high pedigree throughout their programs, including recent WAC championships for their men's and women's golf teams.
The talented instructors of Nach K Dekh call on years of dance-floor experience to impart the rhythmic gestures, fast footwork, and pulsating energy of Bollywood dance in classes for children, teens, and adults. Weekly classes begin with basic steps, then build on the skills learned in past sessions to help students eventually perform an entire Bollywood number, incorporating lively music and props to entertain the public at a theater or nearby Taj Mahal. Intimate sessions of no more than 12 students allow one-on-one coaching from instructors, helping dancers develop their skills quickly and correctly. For a more sweat-focused session, Nach K Dekh's BollyBurn class challenges participants to high-impact cardio workouts and muscle conditioning set to Bollywood music.
An old-fashioned marquee sign hangs above the entrance to Osio Cinemas, its hand-placed letters broadcasting the six films currently being screened. While the selection changes weekly, the theater always carefully curates a selection of popular films, documentaries, and independent features. That eye for artistry even extends to the refreshments—besides classic popcorn scooped at the concession stand, the on-site Cafe Lumiere serves up slices of cheesecake, squares of brownies, and generally round cups of espresso, all of which may be brought into the theater.
Leo Sidorenko and Olga Agafonova started dancing at age six. They were teaching dance by the ages of 14 and 15. After an international competitive dancing career, they have opened their own studio in order to teach others the art of ballroom dancing. They offer a variety of techniques such as tango, swing, salsa, and waltz, and offer classes for students of all levels from casual wedding dances to professional competitors.
At age 7, Nathan Hadsall eagerly unpacked his first magic set. By the time he was in high school, he was already performing full-time. When he began studying psychology and philosophy, he realized that even his academic pursuits could play into his magic. Now, with Sleight of Mind, he astonishes partygoers with his feats of illusion. Whether performing tried-and-true parlor tricks for an intimate group of friends or crafting on-stage illusions for larger gatherings, he puts on a show-stopping performance. With his signature blend of mentalism, hypnotism, and illusion, he encourages audience interaction, eliciting peals of delighted laughter.
Though they draw from diverse backgrounds in teaching, professional dance performance, and movement studies, the instructors at Agape Dance Academy specialize in classical ballet, following the curriculum and techniques of the Royal Academy of Dance. They also offer courses in contemporary dance. In classes suited for preschoolers and adolescents, they pass on the basics and advanced movements of that centuries-old performance art. And yet their teaching style isn't strictly traditional—instructors work with and encourage each student one on one, promoting emotional as well as physical growth as sessions progress.
