When confidence wanes. When bullies close in. When poor health looms on the horizon. PRO Martial Arts of Greenville’s instructors preemptively thwart these instances of vulnerability with their unique blend of korean martial arts. Combining tang soo do, tae kwon do, and hapkido, the system not only instills self-esteem and poise, but also self-defense techniques and strength. Classes engage kids and adults with quick punches and kicks, but only sessions for children integrate the signature Armor program. It focuses on preventing bullying, both in person and online, by familiarizing kids with precursors to intimidation and arming them with the techniques to handle it.
Six weeks. That's as long as it takes to transform a body from flabby to fit and a temperament from guarded to vivacious. That is, if you join The North Pole Dance Studio's Six Weeks to Sexy course. One pole-dancing class per week eases students into the workout while they gain not only muscle mass, but also sass.
The golfing gurus at Edwin Watts Golf Academy diagnose and correct their students' poor swing and putting habits in an effort to help them improve their shots and lower their scores. In one-on-one swing-analysis sessions, students learn a repeatable swing that eliminates tendencies they may have to slice, hook, push, or pull the ball. A special laser attaches to the end of the player's club and tracks the swing path while JC Video swing-analysis software records the session from two separate angles, lest analysis be thrown off by only looking at the golfer’s good side. Putting analysis employs Tomi technology to measure eight separate parameters of the putting stroke, from clubhead orientation at address to swing path and tempo. After swing and putting lessons, students may access the recordings on a password-protected website, so they can forward videos to friends or sports-documentary filmmakers.
At Qi Works Studio, instructor Mary Lou Powers facilitates well being by leading martial arts classes that build up strength, memory, and flexibility. Qigong sessions address the control of qi, which can spawn increased general health and advanced deftness in other martial arts applications, and the hand forms of tai chi help participants improve their posture, coordination, and brawn. For more than 15 years, Steve Goforth's career in the golf industry has seen him take on a wide range of roles. He started playing the game at the age of 8, and soon went on to earn a letter on his high school's varsity squad. His foray into the business side of the game came in 1990, when he was hired by Hejaz Golf Course as a cart attendant and a maintenance worker. While there, Steve learned the ins and outs of the industry, witnessing the operation of a successful golf course from giving lessons and consoling trees after golfers' vicious attacks. He eventually got recruited as a custom club builder and certified fitter at Slazenger, and later managed and taught at a golf center. Today, Steve has returned to his original stomping grounds at Hejaz Golf Course as a Class A PGA Professional, and invites novices and experts alike to take part in his private lessons and group clinics.
