Established in 1928, Mead Farm provides lessons and riding time for beginners and experts, educating budding equestrophiles and catering to old horse hounds' galloping needs. Taking place every Friday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., between May and September, the couple’s horse ride makes an excellent romantic outing or opportunity to get on the good side of a horse-riding probation officer. The evening starts with a brief introduction to equine care, covering mounting tips, how to control a distressed horse, hoof care, and Pegasus-wing clipping before sweethearts are sent on their way, securely astride their noble steeds. Twosomes are then guided by a member of the Mead Farm staff on a one-hour ride. Upon return, sweethearts are treated to a one-hour wine and cheese tasting with other couples, delighting taste buds with piquant pours and delicious dairy bites while basking in a horseback-ride-generated romance aura.
A family-owned business since 1958, Designs By Lee comprises a retail garden center and a 21-acre nursery. In this facility, the knowledgable staff shares tips in growing everything from azaleas to kale to deciduous trees. Birdbaths add flair to gardens, and landscaping services bring plans to life without having to rent machinery or convince the neighbors' Dogwood to relocate. In the fall, the nursery stocks seasonal decorations?such as scarecrows and gourds?for Halloween and Thanksgiving, as well as the winter holidays.
Lawn Doctor's roots lead back to the mid 1960s, when friends Bob Magda and Tony Giordano took on the endeavor of reviving uncared-for lawns in their hometown of Matawan, New Jersey. Their local business has since blossomed into a national franchise with more than 500 locations across the United States, each adhering to the mission of enhancing lawns' allure with time-tested techniques, dedicated customer service, and dabs of foundation makeup. Before Lawn Doctor's assiduous staffers unleash expertise on swards, they arrive at the client's home for a complimentary consultation to gauge each lawn's specific needs. Grass gurus can thicken turf with their patented Turf Tamer power seeder and foster healthy growth for grass, trees, and shrubs with fertilizer. Uninvited lawn assailants—such as crickets, ants, and grazing neighbors—shudder at the sight of Lawn Doctor's pest-control experts. The company also helps to preserve Mother Nature's receding hairline with organic lawn treatments and natural, eco-friendly products.
When working with the certified lawn technicians at Whole Lawns, homeowners never have to worry about their grass soaking up the hazardous lawn-care chemicals of old. Eschewing those practices completely, the team achieves verdant pastures by spritzing yardscapes with organic, eco-friendly products. They keep themselves accountable to this practice by listing every ingredient on their detailed product labels, whether they’re controlling pests or feeding grass roots with organic nutrients.
Nestled among 151 private acres, Larkspur Farm’s 36-horse facility sets the spacious stage for education in the equine pursuits of hunting, jumping, and dressage under the tutelage of specialized trainers. All lessons take place year-round on the farm’s all-weather outdoor lesson ring or inside the 80’x120’ arena. Beginners establish riding skills by starting with one-on-one lessons that instill such fundamentals as mounting the horse, trotting, and applying enough gel to give your steed a mane mohawk. As riders advance, they matriculate to small group lessons of up to four riders that last one hour and cover more advanced techniques.
Larkspur Farm offers boarding facilities for privately owned horses, summer camp for boys and girls aged 7–14, and a sales and leasing program for horses and ponies.
