As Oregon Natural Medicine's physicians, Shannon Reive-Schmidt and John Reynolds were both inspired at an early age to delve into the field of medicine. Now, Drs. Reive-Schmidt and Reynolds use their expertise to focus on health through holistic practices, laser therapy, and hormonal treatment. Dr. Reive-Schmidt's particular interest in women's health, pediatric care, and brain health have afforded her success in treating hormonal imbalances and head injuries through a combination of herbal medicine, homeopathy, neurofeedback therapy, and bio-identical hormones.
For his part, John Reynolds's path to medicine began at a young age, as well. After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in psychology, he traveled the United States caring for patients in community-health clinics and providing counseling for feuds with invisible friends at a children's nonprofit. John eventually completed his medical training at the National College of Natural Medicine and settled in Oregon, where his extensive experience in mood disorders, thyroid dysfunction, laser therapy, gastrointestinal issues, and hormonal imbalances complement Dr. Reive-Schmidt's expertise.
Dr. Igor Schwartzman, who has studied and researched holistic medicine at Boston University and the Harvard School of Public Health, works to uphold the six principles of naturopathy at Whole Family Wellness Center. The pillars include embracing the healing power of nature, seeking out the root cause of each ailment, and teaching patients how to prevent future illness. Though Dr. Schwartzman treats patients of all ages, his specialty lies in women's health, hormone imbalances, and infertility.
The clinic's two licensed acupuncturists, Kendra Ward and Amy Chitwood, have traveled around the globe cultivating a passion for alternative medicine. Their treatments help patients to overcome a variety of ailments and reduce stress after chaperoning bovine field trips to china shops. In the clinic's private rooms, soothed sighs drift amid eastern paper screens, statuettes, and rustling potted plants.
At City Of Roses Hypnosis, Kimball Ralphs CHt, certified by the National Guild of Hypnotherapists and a member of the Oregon Hypnotherapy Association, has the transformative power of suggestion on his side. Before hypnosis sessions take place, the certified hypnotherapist takes time to answer any questions his patients might have. Once patients feel comfortable, he coaxes them into a relaxing, hypnotic state before intoning a series of positive suggestions during their sessions, throughout which patients retain a sense of control. Ideally, the suggestions burrow into the subconscious mind, where they reinforce patients’ personal goals—which could include losing weight, quitting smoking, curbing addictive habits, or landing a job as the manager of a boy band.
The team of experienced therapists at Rebound Massage Therapy and Sports Wellness treat all of their clients with the same care they would show to a professional athlete. They design each of their massages with the end result in mind: depending on their individual clients, they might rely on relaxing Swedish strokes, stretching kneads, or trigger-point techniques that train muscles to kick their bad habits.
Urban Wellness Group, staffed by naturopathic physician Dr. Kelly Jennings, provides holistic healing with an earth-friendly ethos. Their personalized Be Vibrant power cleanse is the first and most concentrated in a four-week cleanse program, designed to jolt patients into a healthier lifestyle, improve immunity, and shed excess mass. After an initial consultation and brief health assessment, patients receive their personalized plans. Each day, bodies ingest two power-cleanse smoothies, a custom-blended herbal formula, and one meal culled from a list of modified ingredient options. Complimentary doctoral advice, support, and pages of animated kitten images are available by email throughout the week. Once the first week is complete, an anti-inflammatory diet and the rest of the herbal formula work to clear bodily insides of toxins and misplaced spare keys for the rest of the month. Patients are welcome to receive ongoing support throughout their cleanse for an additional cost.
