Under the direction of Drs. Mark Hosko and Keith Klatt, Laser Smooth's board-certified laser specialist Kimberly Saad works to reduce unwanted hair using the LightSheer Duet. The laser passes over the skin, raising the temperature just enough to destroy the hair follicle without causing injury to the surrounding skin, while its cooling tip soothes stinging sensations. Over the next month, the destroyed hairs will slowly fall out. Optimum results can become apparent after 4–8 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart, and while clients experience little to no downtime, their skin may turn red temporarily after each treatment and turn green temporarily after transformations into the Hulk.
Since 1977, Cascade Athletic Clubs have distinguished themselves from typical gyms with their vast array of amenities, which range from big-screen TVs to a seasonal waterpark. In their fitness studios, instructors boost students’ flexibility during Pilates workouts, lead seniors through age-appropriate workout techniques during Silver Sneakers classes, or teach students how to dance to fast-paced music during Zumba. The dedicated team of personal trainers, meanwhile, help athletes stay motivated on a one-on-one basis, and tailor their regimens to individual goals that range from weight loss to preparing for an upcoming marathon. For independent workouts, athletes can play pick up games on the gyms’ basketball, tennis, and racquetball courts or swim laps in the indoor salt-water pools. They can also bulk up with Life Fitness machines, free weights, and Stair Masters designed to build strong enough leg muscles to conquer even the most daunting out-of-order escalator.
It's not exactly shocking that the four veterinarians who run Mt Hood Pet Medical are all pet owners themselves. Even less surprising: they take pet health extremely seriously, which is why the clinic's website is full of information on pet nutrition, grooming, and even kidney problems. For their part, the staff provides services ranging from essential vaccinations to surgery.
U.S. World Class Taekwondo employs award-winning instructors to teach students martial arts and self-defense skills. During kids’ martial arts classes, instructors split their time between bolstering tots’ motor skills and increasing their self-respect and discipline. The adult classes combine combat techniques, self-defense moves, exercise, meditation, and, on occasion, dodgeball.
People with gluten allergies might think they have to wave at bakeries from afar. That's not the case at Liberated Baking, where they can walk right in without fear of an allergic reaction. The bakery swaps out barley, wheat, and rye for all-natural, gluten-free ingredients in its cakes, breads, and pastries. Customers can savor a cinnamon bun or made-to-order sandwich, and sip Trillium coffee. The shop also stocks a selection of gluten-free grocery items, and customizes cakes for weddings and other special events.
The certified pedorthists at Arch Fitters use state-of-the-art technology to provide healthcare professionals, retail facilities, and individual patients with a variety of pain-relieving orthotics. They craft each custom-made pair by employing products such as advanced pressure-mapping software, malleable foam, and digital foot scans. Their raster-vector 3-D software captures 900 control points on the foot, measuring the effects of body weight and providing the outline for the frame of the orthotic. Senior orthotic designers then use SolidWorks software to edit the orthotic to each patient's specifications, adding custom options such as metatarsal pads to relieve pressure on the ball of the foot, heel wedges that improve spinal alignment, and rear oil-slick sprayers to elude the Fratellis. Finally, computerized machines carve out the wooden molds and cut the orthotics themselves from polypropylene plastic, carbon-fiber graphite, or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
