Rob Snowhite is a professional fly-fishing consultant devoted to training and tutoring aspiring anglers. His multi-tiered background in consulting, education, fly-fishing, biological science, and writing The New Adventures of Old Christine fan-fiction gives him a trained vantage point from which to approach his craft. During your two-hour guided trip, you and a friend, loved one, or sentient pet cat get to explore the DC area's waterways while walking in, wading, or canoe floating over your choice of lake, river, pond, or stream. Rob will carefully explain both the mechanical and theoretical aspects of fly-fishing while emphasizing only the catch-and-release method of fishing, as well as sustainable ways of exploring the water. Learn the basics of casting on grass or on water, knot tying, rods, reels, flies, entomology, hydrology, and more. All equipment is provided for the trip, as well as drink and snack rewards for staying on top of your fish-based fly game (lunch is optional and an additional $10 per person).

DC Social Sports Club encourages athletes of all abilities to join socially oriented leagues for more than 10 recreational sports at various DC-area locations. Competitors can throw tight spirals in one of the club’s Arlington-based flag-football leagues, run the base paths in coed softball near the Washington Monument, or sweep away subzero dust mites during broomball games in Rockville.

After games, competitors can squash rivalries and join forces at a league-affiliated, conveniently located bar, where they enjoy happy-hour specials. For those more interested in the social aspect, DC Social Sports Club offers special events such as advance movie screenings, field trips, drinking-game tournaments, and bar crawls.

At Potomac Kempo, professional instructors focus on fitness and exercise while teaching self-defense. They help their students build strength, balance, speed, endurance, and coordination, as a way to liven up repetitive fitness routines or add to non-existent ones. Perhaps more importantly, they incorporate the key elements of martial arts—allowing each of their students to reduce stress, increase energy, improve focus, and gain self-discipline.

In 1976, educator, musician, and kinesiologist Robin Wes longed for a children's gym that prioritized personal growth over competition. Unveiled at a time when physical-education classes pushed students to focus almost exclusively on winning, Robin's program was swiftly adopted and is now used in more than 300 Little Gyms worldwide. Robin still pens original music to accompany lessons, which engage whippersnappers 4 months old–12 years old with gymnastics, dance, karate, and parent and child activities.

Each of The Little Gym's classes introduces simple movements that sharpen motor skills and set brains whirring, allowing kids to progress at their own pace until they can finally build a computer out of macaroni and glitter. Staff members strive to build a base for lifelong social skills and self-assurance with each exercise, including activities rooted purely in fun, such as summer camps or birthday parties, which helped The Little Gym to earn title of #1 Birthday Chain in Parents magazine.
