Freeway Golf Course has a storied history. For one thing, in the 1960s, the course was owned by four African-American businessmen during a time when segregation was still very prevalent in the United States. The course also played host to the first-ever Sammy Davis Jr. Open. Today, golfers navigate across the hallowed grounds of Freeway while tackling the challenges it throws their way. Water swallows shots on six different holes, and the greens are fast and firm, much like an auctioneer explaining the rules of a pillow fight. The ninth hole holds rank as the course's signature hole, testing golfers with a mammoth 580-yard par five?far and away the course's longest hole.

Q&A with the Director Of Golf Operations

Apart from your business's main attraction, do you offer any "hidden" services or activities that visitors are always delighted to learn about?

Princeton Country Club is the perfect course for all ages and ability levels. It's an enjoyable course to walk 18-holes. With all the renovations that took place at the beginning of 2014, Princeton has turned into a hidden gem right off the busy Route corridor.

As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?

Our staff is on hand to give golfers a truly memorable experience. In addition to keeping our prices affordable, we cater to the new guest or the regular golfer all the same and make them feel welcomed as part of a Country Club experience.

What?s your favorite part of your job?

Meeting new and different people, day after day. I'm a people person, and I like helping everyone feel that they are part of something special.

The course at Stonybrook Golf Club weaves along verdant paths buttressed by dense walls of foliage, creating a relatively short 3,514-yard track from the back tees. Course architect Robert Krieger incorporated frequent misdirection that leads to blind shots, including double doglegs on the 6th and 15th holes, the course’s only two par 5s. Water hazards come into play on seven holes and speedy greens can cause further complications for golfers with the yips or roller-skate golf shoes. When walking, a round can be finished in under three hours, letting players quickly return to daily life or the scene of the accident.
