Some like theirs rare and some like theirs well-done. Some like theirs bare and others like them chock full of toppings from eggs to shredded pork. No matter your burger preference, the competitors at the third-annual Boca Burger Battle will surely suit your fancy as they vie for the Golden Burger trophy and the titles of Best Boca Burger and Best Alternative Burger. Nineteen burger makers from throughout southern Florida converge, grilling inventive and alternative burgers, all of which guests get to sample. Contenders include grill masters from Bite Gastrotruck, Morton's Steak House, and 4th Generation Organic Market, who will be judged by seasoned chefs, festival-goers, and their mothers. To wash down juicy bites, the folks from Cockspur Rum and Iceberg Vodka will mix rum punch and Electric lemonade, alongside a slew of craft beer and wine vendors serving their own boozy creations. And the tastings aren't just limited to burgers and drinks; vendors will also dish out fries, onion rings, salads, wings, and desserts.
After the judges have declared the winners, the festival kicks into after-party mode with live music from rock fiends Classic Rock Therapy, previews of Star Motorcycle's sweet new bikes, and, of course, more drinks and eats. A portion of the day's proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership, so you can leave feeling good about more than just your expanded palate.
Keep your eye on the ball. Rotate your hips. Swing through the ball. These are just some of the many instructions that run through batters' heads as they stand over home plate. ProSource Baseball Training Center helps players work through their thoughts and calibrate their swings before game day with batting cages that pitch baseballs or softballs. An available ProBatter Professional PX2 baseball simulator features an 8'x10' screen, where a virtual pitcher throws one of nine pitches at up to 100 miles per hour. Players may also enroll in one of many training programs focused on other aspects of the sport, ranging from running biomechanics to throwing footwork.
Along with multiple batting cages and training programs, ProSource Baseball Training Center's 15,000-square-foot indoor facility houses a turf training field and four multi-use tunnels—from 35–70 feet long—that players can use to practice pitching, fielding, and calling for the help of angels in the outfield. The center's lobby entertains waiting and non-participating patrons with WiFi Internet and DirecTV programming.
Dirt Fitness owner Kelli Musa designed the signature workout at Dirt, which has been mentioned by outlets such as the Palm Beach Post, the Boca Raton Observer, and NBC 6. Fusing elements of cardio and strength training, the 40-minute Dirty 40 sessions gather groups of students to burn up to 700 calories, which is equivalent to a hamburger's entire weekly income. Instructors also lead Vinyasa yoga classes, isometric barre fitness classes, and Hot Barre classes in a 90-degree room. Certified trainers even supervise open-gym sessions, allowing students to pursue extracurricular fitness on their own. Dirt Fitness recently expanded with the opening of it newest location in Boca Raton which features an 8000 sq. ft. fitness studio.
Tennis instructors and consultants Jonathan Goldfarb and Rich Benvin call upon a combined 50 years of hard-court experience—including runs on the professional circuit—when helping tennis players improve their skills. The consulting aspect of their business focuses on matching tennis experts with specific player needs, such as club management, court resurfacing, and college placement for studious tennis rackets.
Each instructor brings a specialty skill set to lesson plans. Goldfarb is a certified family mediator, and he approaches his instruction—in tennis, and in life—holistically. Benvin lives a dual life as an online marketing specialist, and is just as capable of building a website as he is of deconstructing a backhand.
