CrossFit Caliber’s CEO and head coach Arnel Delosreyes has firsthand knowledge of the transformative power of the CrossFit method. After training for years in traditional gyms, Delosreyes thought he had achieved a certain level of fitness, but his first CrossFit class gave him a new perspective on the matter. Inspired, the father, husband, and lawyer added a new title to his resume: certified CrossFit trainer.
Today, Delosreyes and his fellow CrossFit Caliber coaches lead students through workouts that follow CrossFit’s dogma of varied, functional fitness. The explosive sessions blend different fitness elements, such as strength training, cardio, gymnastics, and plyometrics. Like a page-a-day calendar’s page, workouts change every day, but always focus on intense conditioning.
The hot-pink walls aren’t the only element of Studio Energia giving off an energetic vibe. Owner and fitness instructor Julie hops and twirls across the hardwood floor as she leads fast-paced Zumba routines set to catchy Latin music. Trained by the program's founder, Beto Perez, Julie personally guides all Zumba sessions, which include Zumbatomic classes designed especially for kids and Zumba Toning sessions that build muscle and fend off stray lacrosse balls using a weighted stick. The studio also keeps energy high by offering a seven-day-a-week schedule packed with Latin-dance lessons, kids' hip-hop classes, cardio kickboxing, and boot camps.
All of the trainers at Nate's Premium Athletes hold exercise-science degrees with athletic-training minors. They use this expertise to develop training programs that focus on their clients' individual weaknesses, such as strength, balance, and agility. So far, the trainers have worked with more than 85 Division I athletes.
After choosing from a dozen types of classes, students study with veteran dancers for one hour each week to hone the techniques, terminology, and movements associated with such dance types as ballet, ballroom, jazz, and hip-hop. Cavort in one of three dance studios, each with gleaming floor-to-ceiling mirrors so students can analyze their articulations and sprung floors in case one of those articulations turns into an accidental somersault. One of Dorothy's Dancing instructors personally evaluates students' prancing prowess during the course of the seven-week schedule, which features classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and runs from July 5 through August 18.
Healthy Inspirations’ weight-loss programs help women shed pounds by tweaking everyday routines. Throughout each four-week course, trained weight-loss experts oversee a diet metamorphosis, helping clients reshuffle priorities in lifestyle planning, balance old habits with new ones, and resist the lilting songs of sentient pound cakes. Thrice-weekly one-on-one coaching sessions teach clients how to replace food faux pas with nutritionally sound selections, and expert-advised workout regimens combat stresses that lead to overeating. Before-and-after measurements help track progress, and nutrition plans and easy-to-follow cardio workouts reestablish control over fitness and help clients self-monitor progress. Like a street luge drawn by cheetahs, Healthy Inspirations' program gets off to a fast start, with many clients dropping between three and six pounds in the first three days.
